As soon as we were cleaned up, we needed to get out of here. Harris seemed like a chump, but now that his body and his pride were injured, I knew from experience he would be back for revenge.

Quickly, I packed up the bags so we could get out. I paused when I saw her purse flung carelessly by the window. I hadn't looked at it since I tossed it into the room before tying her up.

The leather bag was open with her phone on top, blinking with missed messages. To quell my curiosity, I snatched it up and ran my thumb over the screen, pulling down the notifications. Over fifty missed calls from her mother and a number labeled as "Work" with a crying emoji.

Understandably, people were wondering where she was. If I wanted to ensure the cops didn't start sniffing at her trail, she needed to get in touch with her mother at least.

The water shut off, and a few minutes later, the door to the bathroom opened a crack. "Um, excuse me, Sasuke?" Julia asked in a small voice.

I threw her phone back into her purse. "What is it?" I replied, sounding icier than I intended.

"I don't have any dry clothes."

Heat surged through my body at the thought of her standing there naked. Although I couldn't see through the gap in the door, my imagination took care of the rest.

I grabbed some of the extra clothes I got from Walmart. "Here." I shoved them near the gap. "These will have to do for now."

The door opened, revealing Julia wrapped in a towel. Her long brown hair was wavy and damp, framing her face. She had a few bruises blossoming on her chest and neck from our encounter with Harris, and the sight of them filled me with anger.

"Thanks," she said, her hand brushing mine as she took the bundle of clothes.

I watched her retreat back inside the bathroom, leaving the door slightly ajar.

I wanted to go after her. I wanted to burst through the door, unwrap her towel, and explore every inch of her body.

Instead, I forced myself to stay rooted to the spot, listening to the faint sounds of her changing behind the door.

"Are you done?" I asked gruffly, unable to bear the tension building within me.

"Almost," she replied quietly.

"Can you hurry up," I said, sounding meaner than I wanted to. I was freezing in these damp clothes, and I wanted an excuse to stop imagining her naked.

A moment later, the door opened with a click. Julia was standing there dressed in the extra clothing I gave her - men's sweatpants and an oversized hoodie. Somehow, she looked gorgeous.

"Uhh," I lost my words.

Julia looked at me with an awkward smile. "They're a bit big, but it'll do for now." She moved past me with her damp clothes in her arms, draping them over a chair so they could dry.

"You look good," I said.

Julia seemed surprised, looking over her shoulder at me. "Thanks... I guess," she mumbled.

It took every ounce of my self-control not to grab her and pull her next to me. Why was I being like this? The urges, well, they were normal. After all, I'd kissed her when I kidnapped her. It wasn't the urges that were weird. It was my desire to hold back.

I shook my head. "I guess we need to be leaving this place," I said. "I'm sure if Harris found you by the diner, he knows we're here."

Julia nodded, biting her bottom lip.

"And," I sighed, struggling to figure out what a nice guy would do in this situation. "I guess you need to go home and get new clothes."

Julia's face lit up. The instant joy in her expression made my stomach do flips. "Really?"

"Yeah, whatever," I said, shrugging it off. "I mean, I don't need to deal with cops if someone decides to report you missing." I turned to the bathroom quickly before I could have any more of these weird feelings.

I couldn't understand why I was suddenly acting like this. Did I really care about Julia? Or was it just a guilty conscience telling me that I had to protect her? Whatever it was, I couldn't allow any lingering thoughts about her to cloud my judgment. I've killed many innocent people in cold blood, and I've never allowed my emotions to get in the way or give me any hesitation. No matter what happened, I couldn't let my feelings for Julia compromise my mission.

I stripped out of my soggy clothes, quickly stepping into the warm shower to heat myself up.
