“Ten…”

My eyelids fluttered open.

The cacophony of roars, hisses, howls, and snarls was deafening.

How I hadn’t woken up before now was a mystery.

There was a brief moment of weightlessness as I drifted up to consciousness, but it wasn’t the peaceful kind of awakening you get after a good night’s sleep.

Grogginess gripped me, accompanied by an unsettling chill.

Above me was a high-tech metal top, and I seemed to be inside what looked like a massive glass bottle.

My breath left foggy patches on the cool surface.

Clad in a soft, silver jumpsuit, I gingerly pressed a hand to the transparent wall, trying to pull myself upright.

My heart raced as I tried to process the situation.

“Nine…”

The countdown echoed around me.

I looked left and right, trying to locate its source.

What I saw was nothing short of bizarre.

Adjacent capsules held an array of alien beasts, each seemingly more aggressive than the last.

Creatures with sharp, protruding teeth, some with coarse hair, others with sleek scales.

Horns, tails, glowing eyes in the dim light — I felt like I was part of some twisted alien zoo.

And I was the main attraction.

A shiver ran down my spine.

“Eight…”

My last memory before appearing here was lying in bed, reading a book about interstellar travel.

Was this some kind of dream?

A nightmare?

Pushing harder against the glass, I strained for a clearer view of my surroundings.

I seemed to be in a vast chamber, its walls made of an unfamiliar, gleaming dark metal.

“Seven…”

I tried to call out, but my voice was muffled by the thick walls.

My panic surged.

My breathing grew shallow, my thoughts scattered.
