The second male turned his attention, a snarl forming on his lips.

They squared off, circling each other, their eyes locked in a battle of dominance, almost a perfect repeat of the battle they had engaged in during the first round.

Seizing the opportunity, I lunged towards the female.

She didn’t see me coming, and as I scooped her up in my arms, her terrified gaze locked onto mine.

Her struggles were fierce, each squirm and twist an attempt to break free.

“Shh!” I snarled, placing a firm hand over her mouth to muffle her cries.

I didn’t want to silence her, but we couldn’t afford any more attention. “Trust me!”

But trust was a luxury neither of us could afford right now.

Not in this hellish game.

The roars and scuffles of the two fighting males began to fade into the distance as I made my way deeper into the jungle, away from the chaos.

The thick underbrush was a challenge, but I was determined to put as much distance between us and them as possible.

But our time was limited.

The other males would find us.

It was only a matter of when.

Aurora

My heart was still racing, each beat echoing the bewildering chain of events that had just unfolded.

One moment, I had been attacked by an alien male with intentions that were far from friendly.

Just as I had thought I was safe, anotherhad chased me down, echoing the same menace.

And now, this third one — with a visage so strikingly different from any creature I had ever seen — had me held close against him as he maneuvered through the dense jungle foliage.

In the midst of my panic and disarray, I couldn’t help but notice the details of the creature who currently had me in his grasp.

His skin was an intricate tapestry of blue scales, shimmering slightly under the diffused sunlight that managed to penetrate the jungle canopy.

They were like tiny gemstones, glittering with an internal luminescence.

Tall, majestic horns crowned his head, spiraling upward like the towers of some fantastical castle.

But what captivated me the most were his eyes — vast, molten pools of gold that seemed both predatory and… intriguing.

I felt a tightening in my chest.

The weight of my recent traumas made my thoughts hazy and my trust was a resource in short supply.

As soon as my feet touched the ground, I had every intention of making my escape.

Perhaps I could find a place to hide, or even better, a way off this hellish planet altogether.

But for now, his large, scaly hand muffled any attempt I made at a scream or shout.

The silencing gesture felt both controlling and oddly protective.
