For the first time since this nightmare began, I felt seen, understood.

I wasn’t just a piece of meat for one of the males to stick his thing into.

I was aperson.

Tears filled my eyes, but I blinked them back.

The weight of my situation loomed large, but so did a newfound determination.

A roar echoed in the distance, shattering the fleeting moment of respite.

Jayas’s eyes darted around, and he pulled me to my feet. “We need to keep moving.”

The jagged mountain top loomed closer with every step.

Behind us, the relentless roars of the pursuing alien males grew louder and more menacing.

The foliage gave way to bare rock, which reflected the strange alien sunlight in sharp glints.

I could feel my heart thudding in my chest as we reached the peak, out of breath and with a rising sense of panic.

The mountain top was a flat plateau, but just as I thought we might get a moment’s reprieve, I realized we were trapped.

Before us was a sheer drop, the depth of which made my head spin.

There was a large pool of water down there but who knew how deep it was.

I could hear the crunch of underbrush and the aggressive grunts of our pursuers closing in.

Jayas spun me around, locking his golden eyes onto mine. “We have to jump,” he said firmly.

I stared at him in disbelief.

The ground below seemed miles away, a swirl of dense jungle canopy and unknown terrain. “Are you insane? That fall will kill me!”

He gave me a determined look. “Maybe. But not me.”

I barely had time to register his words before he swept me up into his strong, scaled arms.

For a moment, time seemed to stand still.

I could feel his heart, as frantic as mine, beating against my back.

Then, with a fierce roar, the first of our pursuers crested the mountain top.

Its jaws, filled with razor-sharp teeth, snapped at us, barely missing Jayas’s foot.

The sight of that monstrous maw filled my vision, and a scream caught in my throat.

Without another word, Jayas took a running leap off the cliff edge, and I clutched onto him, closing my eyes tight.

Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!

I felt the sickening sensation of free fall, the wind whipping through my hair and tearing at my silver jumpsuit.

My stomach lurched, and the whole world seemed to turn upside down.
