She wasmine.

In her eyes, I saw the weight of her decision.

A decision that mirrored my own.

When our eyes met, it was like an unspoken understanding passed between us.

We knew what had to be done.

To mate.

To end this game.

Not out of lust or to score a point in some twisted intergalactic show, but because it was our only chance of survival.

Time felt like an illusion within the pod.

Seconds felt like hours, and minutes felt like days.

But as the countdown for the next round began, I felt a rush of anticipation.

The pod’s system hummed to life, and the soft voice of the artificial announcer continued the countdown.

“Five…”

I pressed my hand against the wall, hoping that, somehow, she would sense my presence.

“Four…”

She mirrored my movement, pressing her palm against her pod’s wall, and aligning it with mine.

There was an entire world of distance between us, but at that moment, it felt like nothing separated us.

“Three…”

I watched as grim determination filled her eyes.

We were in this together, and we’d find a way out.

Together.

“Two...”

She mouthed something, but I couldn’t make out the words.

It didn’t matter.

I felt their meaning deep within my core.

“One...”

A bright light engulfed everything.

The next thing I knew, the sensation of rapid movement consumed me.

My pod was being launched into the next round of the game.

As I hurtled through space, I kept my gaze fixed on Aurora’s pod, which glided gracefully alongside mine.
