I wished I could break through the barrier and hold her, assure her that everything would be okay.

But wishes were for fools and dreamers, and I couldn’t afford to be either in this game.

The journey, although mere minutes, felt like an eternity.

Each passing second seemed to stretch on, and my longing to see her, to protect her, grew.

I knew I had to be patient.

We had a plan, a chance at freedom, and we couldn’t afford to mess it up.

My pod began its descent onto the platform, and through the glass, made red by the break into the atmosphere, I could make out its vast landscape.

Even from here, it looked treacherous, filled with obstacles and dangers.

But none of that mattered.

All I cared about was finding Aurora and ensuring her safety.

The pod slammed into the ground.

I had arrived.

* * *

The doors to my pod hissed open, a mixture of steam and chilled air pouring out.

Without hesitation, I bolted.

Each step was powered by the burning desire to find Aurora.

I had committed her pod’s location to memory during our previous encounters, and with swift precision, I headed directly towards it.

The metallic exterior of her pod glistened with early morning dew as I approached, but even from a distance, I could see the door standing ajar.

It was empty.

Panic welled up inside me.

Had she been taken already?

Was she in danger?

No. I couldn’t afford to entertain such thoughts.

I needed to find her.

My senses heightened; I took a deep breath, pulling the surrounding scents into my lungs, sifting through them, searching for that familiar and intoxicating aroma that was uniquely hers.

And there it was — her scent.

Fresh, with a faint underpinning of the floral notes from the previous world’s forest, and something that was just… Aurora.

I followed the trail her scent left, my heart pounding in my chest.

The foliage became denser, and the sound of my footsteps crunching on fallen leaves and twigs echoed in my ears.

The suspense was almost unbearable when, quite unexpectedly, a figure emerged from behind a large, native tree.
