If any of the alien males found us in this state, we’d be sitting ducks.

I needed to find a safe place to hide and tend to Jayas’s injuries.

Summoning all my strength, I looped one of Jayas’s arms around my shoulder and tried to lift him.

He was heavy, but adrenaline and sheer determination drove me.

Slowly, painstakingly, we made our way deeper into the jungle, seeking shelter.

The roles were reversed.

Now, it wasmyturn to protecthim.

In the distance, the haunting cries of the alien beasts echoed, reminding me of the imminent danger we were in.

But with every step, every strained breath, a single thought burned brightly in my mind:

Wewouldsurvive this.

The light of the twin suns filtered through the dense canopy, creating dappled patterns on Jayas’s face.

His once vibrant skin now looked ashen, but his fierce golden eyes were as intense as ever.

Every breath he took seemed like a struggle, and I couldn’t bear to see him in pain.

A certain vulnerability in his gaze caught my attention. “Aurora,” he murmured, his voice hoarse. “I… I want to mate with you, here and now. Before it’s too late.”

The sheer rawness of his confession made my heart race.

I gently touched his face, my fingers brushing against his forehead. “Jayas, as much as I want that too, we need you to heal first. Mating will takes its toll on you and your body might not withstand it.”

His gaze intensified, searching mine for any hint of doubt. “Are you afraid for me or of me?” he whispered, vulnerability etching every word.

“I’m afraid forus,”I admitted. “For our future. After this whole thing is over and you own me… Maybe we could…”

I shook my head, confused at how I was feeling. “The Malquarans are unpredictable,” I affirmed. “If they change the game again, I might not find you next time. We need you strong and healthy.”

Understanding washed over his face. “You’re right,” he murmured, a hint of regret in his tone.

A glimmer of hope sparkled in my mind. “Before I found you, I saw a supply drop. There might be medicine or something to help you recover.”

Jayas nodded weakly. “It’s worth a try.”

His fingers, though trembling, reached out and touched a peculiar looking plant by his side.

With great effort, he plucked its thorns out. “Take these,” he instructed, handing them to me.

The thorns were oddly familiar. “I recognize these. They look like the thorn that killed me. The first time.”

“These thorns are laced with its potent poison.”

A shiver ran down my spine. “Why would you give me these?”

His voice was firm. “Stay hidden. Avoid the enemy at all costs. But if you’re cornered, if there’s no way out, use one on yourself. It’s a mercy. You’ll be gone within a minute, and we will all reset.”

I looked at the deadly thorns.
