She was out there, risking her life, for me.

The thought of her alone in this jungle full of danger kept the cold dread alive in my chest.

I kept meditating, kept focusing on healing, and I felt my body stitching itself back together… but it was taking a long time.

Adamnlong time.

I could hear their footsteps, the soft rustling of foliage, and the low growls.

Alien males.

Their presence was like an electric current in the air, and I knew if they found me, wounded and defenseless as I was, they would show no mercy.

That’s how this brutal game worked.

It’s whatIwould do in their place.

Eliminate the competition.

Dragging myself through the dirt and leaves, every inch was agony.

But I had to hide better than I already was.

My eyes darted around for shelter.

A thick, ancient tree stood a little distance away, its vast roots winding above the ground, creating the perfect shelter.

With every ounce of strength left in me, I pulled myself beneath the tree, pressing my body tight against its roots.

The earthy scent of the soil and the shadows from the dense canopy above provided the smallest comfort in this hellish landscape.

Then, as if on cue, I heard it — the unmistakable sound of another alien male’s footsteps.

Each thud made my heart race faster.

Hiding my breath, I peeked through a gap in the roots.

An enormous, menacing figure entered the clearing.

Its tall, muscular frame was a stark contrast to the gentle colors of the jungle.

TheKlarik.

He looked around, his eyes predatory, searching for any sign of competition or prey.

My heart sank when he made his way to the pod.

With a single swipe, he checked the inside, ensuring it was vacant.

I lay there, frozen, praying that the shadows would keep me concealed.

If he found me, it would be the end.

Every muscle in my body screamed, but I willed myself to be still, to blend with the earth and the roots.

After what felt like an eternity, the Klarik’s gaze moved away from the pod, scanning the surroundings.

He hesitated, as if sensing something, but then, with a grunt of frustration, he moved on, deeper into the jungle.
