Relief washed over me, but it was quickly replaced by an even deeper fear.

What if Aurora met him?

What if she wasn’t as fortunate as I was?

The thought was unbearable.

The vision of that beast touching her, or worse, claiming her while I lay here, defenseless, sent chills down my spine.

The weight of my injuries and the powerlessness of my situation bore down on me.

Closing my eyes, I focused on our memories.

Her laughter, her bravery, the way her eyes lit up when she smiled.

Remembering our shared moments of connection, passion, and understanding in this twisted game brought a sense of calm over my tormented mind.

I had to believe in her strength.

In her cunning.

We were in this together, and she had proven time and again that she was every bit as formidable as any of these alien creatures.

As minutes turned to hours, I clung to our shared memories.

They kept the darkness at bay and my spirits alive.

And with every passing moment, my determination grew.

I would recover.

I would protect her.

And together, we would find a way out of this nightmare.

But for now, I would lay hidden, waiting for her return, trusting in her resilience, and hoping against hope that she would emerge from the jungle unscathed and victorious.

The pain was ebbing but not completely gone.

I found a slight comfort amongst the thick roots of the tree, hidden from the view of any wandering eyes.

It was in this semi-conscious state that a familiar scent wafted towards me.

Aurora.

The rustling grew louder, and a fleeting panic took hold of me.

What if she couldn’t find me?

What if I’d hiddentoowell?

With considerable effort, I managed to lift one hand and waved it weakly, calling out:

“Over here!”

A beautiful face appeared from the bushes, her eyes widening in relief as she spotted me. “Jayas!”
