Next time, I might not get so lucky.

The dense, humid jungle enveloped me as I trudged forward, each step weighed down by the confusion of altered terrains and misplaced pods.

The leaves rustled softly underfoot, and the symphony of unknown creatures filled the air.

Occasionally, a colorful creature would flutter past, momentarily distracting me from the grim situation at hand.

I had to admit, as frustrating as it was, the Malquarans had done a fantastic job of keeping us on our toes.

The shifting pods ensured we couldn’t predict where each other would be.

And now, Jayas and I were both lost in this vast, unpredictable arena, likely wandering in opposite directions.

I tried to think rationally.

If Jayas found my pod first, he would surely wait for a while, hoping I’d come to him.

But how long would he wait?

And where was he starting from?

A pang of anxiety gripped me.

But wait…

If my pod’s location had been changed too, he wouldn’t find it.

Which meant we were both wandering the arena looking for each other.

I yearned for the comfort of his embrace, the safety of his presence.

We needed each other.

Together, we were stronger, and if we could find each other, there would be hope of escaping this nightmare.

As I treaded cautiously, my fingers brushed against the familiar, cool texture of the poison needles in my pocket.

A reminder of Jayas’s foresight and care.

Their deadly potential loomed large in my mind.

I could use one and reset this round.

Except… the situation would be the same.

We would both wake up in our new locations and not know where the other one was.

An idea began to form as I continued walking.

If Jayas and I were to find each other, we needed a way to signal our locations.

And while shouting was risky, due to the possibility of attracting unwanted attention, there were other, less audible ways…

The arena was teeming with bioluminescent flora.

Their soft, glowing hues painted the jungle in a stunning palette of colors.
