To be forever trapped within this glass cage, with freedom just beyond my grasp?

Memories of Aurora flashed through my mind, providing a renewed determination.

I couldn’t give up, not now.

Changing tactics, I aimed the cannon upwards, towards the pod’s metallic lid.

It had to have a weak point, some tiny flaw or chink in its armor that I could exploit.

The cannon roared to life again, and the plasma beam lashed out, striking the metal surface with ferocity.

The silence that followed was deafening.

But as I squinted upwards, hoping to find some evidence of my success, my heart sank.

Just like the glass, the metallic ceiling remained unaffected.

Unblemished.

Perfect.

Desperation fueled a wild idea.

In the darkest moments, the most primal instincts can prove the most potent.

The plasma cannon, having already failed me as a tool of ranged destruction, found a new purpose.

I heaved it upwards with a grunt of determination, slamming it hard against the metallic ceiling.

The impact echoed in the confined space, a muffled cry for freedom.

I pulled back and examined my handiwork, my heart leaping at the faint indentations that marked the surface.

The Malquarans, for all their superior technology and foresight, seemed to have overlooked something as rudimentary as brute force.

Or perhaps, in their arrogant belief of technological supremacy, they thought that no one would be desperate enough to resort to such primitive measures.

At least, not at the pod’s tall ceiling.

None of the beasts could reach that high and the perfectly smooth glass surface of the walls made it impossible for such large beings to scale it.

It didn’t matter.

What mattered was that there was a way, a tiny glimmer of hope.

And that’s all I needed.

I hefted the cannon again, using its weight and the force of my determination to strike once, twice, thrice.

Each blow reverberated with my desperation to see Aurora again, to escape this hellish confinement.

I could feel my muscles protesting, my palms stinging from the impact, but there was a fire within that refused to die.

I was not about to let the Malquarans or their damned pod keep me from her.

Already, I could feel my strength waning.

But every time I faltered, thoughts of Aurora spurred me on.
