“Can you go inside?”

“I think they do tours. I’m hoping we can, I would love to see inside.”

“Sounds like fun,” she said and we headed up the hill.

The house was located on a residential street and if you weren’t looking for it you might almost miss it. The two-story house was set back on the hill with shell and cement covered arches along the bottom and stairs that lead to the house. The first floor was painted blue while the other was painted yellow. Both floors had wrap-around wood balconies. It was an impressive site and as I got out of the car, I looked up onto it. Natalie went over and stood beside me.

“That is pretty cool,” she said.

“It is, isn’t it? I wasn’t sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t this.”

“Do you see the toilet seat over in the corner?

“And the shells under the steps leading up to the house?” I asked.

“It’s certainly eclectic.”

She walked up to the palm tree archway that held the gate and the fence that blocked the entrance. She leaned forward and read the sign on the gate. I continued to look at the house. “There aren’t any tours today.”

“What?” I asked and walked over to her. I read the sign and sure enough we had missed the last tour for the week and the next ones weren’t for another three days. I knew I couldn’t get her to stay in town long enough for that. I tried to keep the disappointment out of my voice when I said, “Well, it was a good idea.”

“You didn’t check it out, research it?”

“I didn’t think I needed to and someone distracted me.”

Natalie blushed at my comment, something I had never seen her do. I tilted my head at her and she stiffened up her back. “Are you complaining?” she asked.

“No, not in the least. Just stating facts. I like that you distracted me, I like when you distract me,” I said and moved closer to her.

“Oh really?” she asked as I wrapped my arms around her.

“Very much so,” I said and kissed her.

She closed her eyes a second before our lips touched and I could see the smile on her face. My tongue leisurely moved around hers as if I had all the time in the world to stand in the middle of the street and kiss her. As far as I was concerned, I did. I wanted to take all the time, all the moments with her. I could sense her hesitation, as if she wasn’t sure if she should be kissing me. I felt the moment she surrendered to the kiss and to me. As she did, I intensified the kiss, wrapping my arms tighter around her and moaning deep in my throat.

I could have kept on kissing her for hours but it was Natalie who broke the kiss first. I leaned back and looked at her, her eyes were heavy with desire and a slow smile spread across her face.

“Well, since we can’t do the tour, I have a few ideas on what we can do with the rest of the day,” she said with a knowing smile.

“I want to do all those ideas but how about we have a picnic? Go wine tasting? Take a walk on the beach?”

Natalie looked away from me and I could tell she was trying to decide what she would say. It would be easier for us to just go back to the hotel room and stumble into bed. If we did, she could still consider this just a fling and fun while we were on vacation. I wanted more than that for us and I needed to show that to her.

“There is a walking path along Moonstone Beach, we could go and check that out,” she said after a moment.

“I like it. Let’s go.”

I turned to stand next to her and reached down to take her hand in mine. She let me but she tensed up for a second before she relaxed her hand in mine. I held it until we got to the car and I opened the door for her.

“Are you much of a hiker?” she asked as we headed down the hill.

“I thought about hiking Machu Picchu but never got around to it.”

Natalie turned her head and looked at me. I didn’t look at her as I was concentrating on the road but I could tell she was shocked by my comment.

“What? I like traveling and going places. I want to see things. I can be adventurous.”

“I’m starting to see that. If you could go anywhere, where would you go?” she asked.
