“Croatia.”

“Wow that was a quick response. Why there?”

“Have you seen the beaches? The coast line? It’s supposed to be one of the most beautiful places in the world,” I replied.

“Have you heard about the Blue Cave in Bisevo Island?”

“It’s on the list of things to do. Along with seeing the waterfalls and maybe finding some truffles,”

“Truffles?” Natalie asked with a laugh. “I didn’t take you for a foodie.”

“I’m not, but I do like good food occasionally, and it might be fun to see if I could find any.”

“That sounds exciting. I hope you get there one day,” she said and leaned back in the seat.

I wanted to tell her that I wanted to go there with her. It seemed like a place that she would love and I could imagine us having as much fun there as we had in the last week. I saw this week, this trip, as a beginning for us but I didn’t think she was ready to hear that just yet.

“Thanks. Where do you want to go?” I asked.

“Everywhere.”

I laughed as it sounded just like her. “Top five?”

“New Zealand, Madagascar, Thailand, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka.”

“All easy to get to, you could do them all in a weekend.”

“When I go to those places and I will, I want to take my time. I want to see as much of them as I can. I don’t want to just rush through it in a week and certainly not in a weekend.”

“How long would you want to spend?”

“A month at least. Months if I could.”

“Interesting,” I said.

“What do you mean interesting? What did you mean by how you said interesting? What are you thinking?”

I smiled at how well she was getting to know me and my inflections. I was indeed thinking of something but I was ready to discuss it with her yet. But she gave me an idea on a different way to take the show. A way that would make it all hers and even better than what my father had started. Something I think she might be willing to do and something I could do with her.

“Maybe, but it’s nothing yet. I’ll tell you when I have it figured out.”

“Okay,” Natalie said and nodded.

She didn’t ask or say anything more but I could tell she wanted to. She was trusting me to be honest with her about what I was thinking and what I wanted to discuss. That she didn’t push me when she wanted to showed me how far we had come in the last week. It gave me hope for our future.

Chapter 19

Natalie

The day went better than I would have thought. However, I had been apprehensive about spending a day with Jason that didn’t have anything to do with the hunt, I was glad we did. I didn’t realize how much I needed a break to just be, to just enjoy until we were doing it.

A lot had happened in the last week. Not just with Jason and me becoming lovers but with my whole attitude about the show and my life. A week ago, I never would have thought I wanted to continue with the show. Now I could see myself doing it, and looking forward to it. And I had Jason to thank for that, or maybe it was Kevin. Going on the hunt, spending time with Jason allowed me to see what it could be like if we worked together.

He was intuitive to my needs and didn’t brush them off or make me feel small for having them. He listened to me, better than anyone I had ever known and I was starting to see that I could trust him. I wanted him, sexually. I had always been open and adventurous when it came to my sex life but I found I was even more so with Jason. I wasn’t one who kissed anyone in public, believing that it was reserved for when we were alone. But I didn’t mind it when Jason did it to me when we were at Nitwit Ridge. Nor did I mind it when he took my hand when we walked back to the car.

We drove back to the hotel, parked the car, and walked over to the beach. It should have surprised me but it didn’t when Jason took my hand as we did. I looked down the small path to the beach. I saw that no one was on it and immediately walked down to the sand. Jason was right behind me and when he stood next to me, he took my hand again. We walked in companionable silence for a few minutes.

“Is that a seal?” I asked and pointed at a blob on a rock not far from us.
