“He’s having a town hall meeting?” I ask Jonah softly.

He’s grinning. “Looks like it. I guess, why not? The town is here.”

“Is he drunk?”

Jonah’s smile turns more affectionate. “No, Abi. He’s…Torin. He’s in his element. He’s just being very much himself.”

I turn back to watch.

“Yes, the fishing!” Torin exclaims with a grin.

“It sucked this last season!” someone calls.

He nods. “I know. I need you to come talk to me about that, Jack. Come up to the palace.” He looks around the room. “Any of you. All of you! And any other businesses that are struggling, I want to hear it. We need solutions.”

“Like what?” someone yells. “How are you going to solve it?”

Torin points at the man. “That’s just it. I’m not!”

There’s grumbling and a few more boos.

But he waves his arms. “We are!” he says. “I need your help. I can get stuff done, but I need to know the stuff to do. That’s where you all come in. I’m not a fisherman.”

“No kidding,” someone shouts.

But Torin just grins. “Seriously. I need you all to help me figure out what we need to do.”

There’s murmuring in the crowd, but no one says no.

“That’s perfect,” I say quietly.

“He’s going to be really good at this,” Jonah says.

“I know.” I’m so proud of him.

He might be on a table in a pub, but it’s so clear this man was meant to lead. His enthusiasm and sincerity and earnestness are so obvious.

He needs that throne right now.

“Maybe I should go in,” I say.

“You think so? Everyone will notice you immediately,” Jonah says. “Torin will notice you immediately. There will be no hiding out.”

My breath catches in my chest. I will be the center of attention. A lot of attention.

My stomach starts to cramp at the thought.

Then someone calls out, “So are we ever going to meet your wife?”

I look at Jonah. He looks at me with a ‘well?’ look.

And I’m suddenly frozen.

“Oh fuck,” Torin says. “I want that so much.”

I swing back to look at him.

Did he just say ‘fuck’ in front of all of these people? And then I notice something I hadn’t at first. There are dozens of phones out and held up.
