Even if I didn’t get up on a table and tell the whole world how I feel about my husband.

Chapter 41

Abigail

Ineed to call my sisters. I’m thankful for the time difference, this time. It’s only seven p.m. back home.

Charlie picks up on the first ring. “Hey, how are?—”

“You need to get Ami and call me back,” I blurt, cutting off whatever she was about to say.

“Okay.” She disconnects just like that.

I pace across our bedroom, nibbling on my thumbnail, waiting for the call back.

It comes surprisingly quickly.

“We’ve figured out how to both be on video without being in the same room,” Charlie says.

Ami’s face is in a second square. “Are you okay?”

Just seeing them, I almost start crying. My nerves are strung tight. “Have you seen the video?”

I know they have. If they’re following Cara’s royal family, especially Torin and me, they’ve seen this video.

“Yes,” Charlie admits. “We were actually going to call you, but weren’t sure where you were. Were you there?”

I shake my head.

“I didn’t think so,” she says. “Surely someone would have gotten you on video if you were.”

My stomach cramps. But I’m also considering it a sign of progress that I haven’t thrown up because of all of this.

“I was there,” I say. “But no one knew. Not even Torin. So I…saw it. But…” Tears start rolling.

“Oh fuck,” Ami mutters when she sees them.

“So, I take it you’re upset?” Charlie asks.

Charlie would love a declaration like what Torin did tonight. Hell, Charlie would do what Torin did tonight. The funny thing is, her husband, Griffin, would never do something like that. Griffin is more like me. Quiet, happy behind the scenes, very content to let his significant other shine in the spotlight.

I stop pacing and stare into the phone.

Charlie and Griffin are a lot like Torin and me in a few key ways. The roles are just flipped. “It took a while for Griffin to tell you how he felt about you, right?” I ask.

Charlie seems surprised. “Yes. And he didn’t want to have the feelings.”

“Right.” I’m studying the edge of my phone as I think about that.

“Do you want your feelings?” she asks.

My gaze bounces back to her. “What?”

“You’re in love with Torin,” she says with a gentle smile. “But you haven’t told him. I’m just asking if you want those feelings.”

I nod. I don’t even have to think about it. “I do. And…I really loved hearing his feelings tonight.”

I realize that’s true. I’ve never had anyone proclaim their feelings for me like that. Claim me like that. Be so proud of me and so in love with me and so happy with me that he just couldn’t hold it inside.
