“You’re a brutal man, Diego, which is why we keep you around. Good luck in Alaska.” Constantine grinned as he yanked out his sunglasses.

Both Dante and I laughed as we headed for the car. As soon as I climbed in, I realized how eager I was to get back to the woman I loved. We’d enjoy the rest of our day before heading to Alaska.

I headed out, glancing in the rearview mirror to ensure we were headed out of the neighborhood without being noticed. And we were. Once his death was in the news, the entire Death Squad would be placed on notice, which could possibly mean additional danger, but I had a feeling they’d back down quickly.

Especially when they learned about the Brotherhood and its expansion, which I planned on suggesting at our next meeting. The bastards might as well be placed on notice.

“This list is impressive Constantine provided,” Dante said as he flipped through the paper copy. “We have a jump drive to use as well.”

“Excellent. We can create an entirely new little black book.”

“A good idea.”

As I turned onto the highway, I pulled out my phone to ensure everything was going smoothly with Ivan.

“Hey. What were the names of the deputies Sabrina has worked with?” Dante asked.

As soon as he asked the question, I bristled. “Damon Woods and Steven Jameson.”

“Fuck. Then I think we have an issue.”

CHAPTER 30

Diego

“Ivan isn’t answering the goddamn phone,” I snarled, immediately dialing Jacob’s phone. When he didn’t answer, I tossed it on the dashboard, raking my hand through my hair as I pressed down on the accelerator.

“Don’t jump to any conclusions. They’re in fucking Alaska.”

I threw a look at Dante. “We need to make certain they are. Call the airport and find out if the bastard arrived.” I yanked my phone into my hand once again, forced to weave in between cars as I headed through lunch traffic, the freeway packed as usual. But nothing was going to stop me from getting to her. Not a goddamn thing.

As I struggled to get to an app I installed only days before, I almost lost control of the vehicle. Fortunately, my Ferrari maneuvered easily in tight spaces and I managed to yank back control just before I lost it, spinning out.

“Watch it, bro. I’d like to get back to my wife in one piece.”

Snarling, I slid my finger across the screen, pulling up the tracking device that could be connected to any phone number and any phone I had on my contact list, including hers. “She’s fucking moving. She’s in a fast-moving vehicle.”

“What the fuck? Did she get away?”

“I don’t know but we will get to her.” I watched the blip as I changed lanes, almost wrecking, horns blaring. Was it possible she left of her own accord? “She’s headed toward the airport.”

What the hell was she doing?

I was about to call Ivan again when my phone rang. “What the fuck is going on?” I barked.

“I’m sorry, boss. You’re not going believe this. We were ambushed.”

“By whom?” I growled.

“Like I said. You’re not going to believe it.”

As he told me the story, other pieces of the ugly puzzle started to fall into place, including how so much information had leaked. “Are you shot?”

“Just a shoulder wound,” Ivan answered.

“Then get on the road to the airport. Call in some of our other men. She is not going to be forced on a plane.”

“Yes, sir. I’m on it.”
