In fact, I’d never understood the concept of the supposed power of love, becoming enraged when anyone mentioned it, trying to convince me I needed the fairer sex in my life. That having one would make me stronger, even more powerful. I’d laughed, shoving the ridiculous thoughts aside. Yet here I was, my emotions spiraling out of control all because of a single woman.

One I need to save.

One I longed to kiss.

To touch.

To taste.

To fuck.

And to possess.

If she died, not only would what little was left of my humanity disappear, I would become even more of a killing machine. Right now the thought was the only comfort I had.

I pushed myself forward, the anger turning to rage, the hunger for blood stronger than it had ever been.

“Diego…”

Her soft cry drew out the warrior in me, someone capable of ripping a man apart with my bare hands. I took off running toward the sound. Nothing would stop me. Nothing. I leapt over fallen limbs and other ground covering, my heart thudding in my chest painfully.

I heard the others, could see a faint hint of light as my soldiers rushed to be by my side.

As I burst through a wooded area, the darkness couldn’t keep me from feeling her. She was right there.

And so was the monster.

“Diego!” Ivan called. Suddenly, Jacob’s flashlight highlighted the horror of what was happening.

I let out a deep roar as I rushed forward, grabbing the jacket of the man holding her head under water. The adrenaline was strong, so much so I managed to jerk the bastard to his feet.

“Oh, fuck,” Ivan called.

“Save her. Now.” I turned my full attention and anger toward the bastard grinning like some fucking evil spirit, issuing punch after punch, refusing to stop.

He didn’t fight back, keeping the grin on his face.

“Nada puede suceder más hermoso que la muerte.”

Nothing can happen more beautiful than death.

The bastard’s voice was slurred but I heard his words. And he was right.

When I pitched him down, I stomped on his hand then his face before throwing myself down. As I lifted him by his jacket with both hands, his grin remained.

“More will come,” he managed. “Until it’s done.”

“Yeah?” I returned. “And I’ll fucking break them like I’m doing to you.” Without hesitation, I slammed his head against the rocks several times. Then I tumbled backward, gasping for air before scrambling to where Sabrina was lying in Ivan’s arms.

“She’s alive. Barely. But she’s alive,” he said, glancing at Jacob who continued to hold the flashlight.

After thrusting the weapon into my pocket, I pulled her into my arms, pressing my hand on her face. “Oh, God, baby. I thought I’d lost you.”

Her breathing was shallow but when her eyelids fluttered open, I could see recognition in them. “Diego…”

“What do you want to do with him?” Jacob asked.

“I’m not done with him yet.” I brushed hair from her face, taking a few seconds to caress her soft skin. When she wrapped her fingers around my shirt, she whispered words I couldn’t understand. I sensed she was unable to focus.
