Or rather it’s just Rafael and Lavender while their parents’ sole heir Rush went missing years ago.

My family did business with his in the past.

“Although they never visit their island, which is a shame because they might lose it. The wild waits for no one.”

The pilot takes a turn to the right and I practically plaster myself against the window, drinking in the beauty around me and sighing at the sight because only nature could have created something this gorgeous.

A tropical forest spreads through the land, countless palm trees with coconuts dangling from them.

Grabbing the phone from the seat next to me, I turn on the camera and zoom in to see the smallest of details so as not to miss a thing.

I’ve seen many magnificent things over the years, how could I not considering I’ve been born into generational wealth?

However, there is something magical and special about this island that seems wild and untouched, its colors inviting you to explore it and yet warning you that you have to follow the rules in order to stay alive.

Because you never know what hides behind the bushes as nature will always find a way to protect itself from intruders.

I see different, smaller trees and bushes bearing berries and various other fruits. From up here the island seems inhabited because judging by the flora, the fauna might be dangerous and consist of a lot of lizards, other animals, and insects that might be deadly to humans.

Shouldn’t such an island be protected to preserve the rare species? The Wright family has owned their land for generations, so no one could take it away from them, but for Grandpa Atlas to buy it…he must have used all his connections.

Then again there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his grandkids. He can talk about disowning them all until he turns blue in the face but everyone knows he never changed his will. He even included Aunt Calliope in it.

Exotic flowers grow through the rich soil and wrap around trees in weird shapes and forms. Their red, purple, and yellow colors create a happy image and add to the beauty of this place, which belongs in geographic magazines all over the world.

Although maybe sometimes it’s better to hide such natural resources so no one can come and crush them. It’s in our human nature to destroy what earth has given us, sadly.

Various bird species must chirp around it, considering their beaks are wide open, and bask under the sunlight, ruffling their feathers and creating nests.

As the pilot gets closer to the island, circling around it and allowing for me to see it from a better angle, I notice blue parrots nibbling on berries.

So not all of them are poisonous. Interesting.

There is a thicker forest on the island's other part, along with a waterfall and other dangerous-looking cliffs that must be a pain in the ass during storms. The humidity is probably insane here.

“This is my house.” Florian’s commentary is hilarious, really, and I focus on the two-level house right in the middle of a guarded territory surrounded by an iron fence with security surveilling the property.

Anyone will have a hard time peeking into his private life to see what goes on behind closed doors where chaos must rule judging by how…vibrant everything seems despite its gray and white colors.

I study the garden transforming the energy around us into something almost sinful, the rose and orchid bushes entwining together while massive oak trees along with neatly cut grass paint a rather interesting picture.

If you just looked at it, you’d never guess the house is on the island for how normal everything around it seems.

I spot several targets spread all over the perimeter, so Florian must come here often. I shudder imagining what else he has here. “I don’t bring my victims here.” He reads my mind so well. “I would have never brought you to a place where I kill people.” His gaze slides to my stomach and the baby chooses this moment to kick hard. “Or my baby. My darkness protects you but it never fucking touches you,” he finishes harshly as a shiver rushes down my spine, and I tear my eyes away from him.

Santiago, Remi, Octavius…

They all kidnapped their wives, bringing them to their dungeons where they showed their true nature and then blackmailed them into marriage. Or rather, put them in the impossible situation where any other option would have cost them something.

On some level, as fucked up as it is, I understand their point of view. They wanted to be honest and make sure their future wives had no illusions when it comes to them.

They are monsters and they’d stay one till their last breaths.

Florian, though…

He never needed proof that I’d want him even during his darkest moments, so he’s done everything in his power to shield me from it.

Except today.
