“This little ol’ thing, as you like to call it, is going to be your house, your home, in a few days. That’s nothing to thumb your nose at.”

“Thumb your nose? Really?”

“You know what I mean.”

“Misspent youth at Shakespearean Festivals coming to light now?” she teased.

“Something like that.”

“Did you ever want to be an actor?”

I had tried to be an actor, to follow in my parents’ footsteps, but I had no talent for acting and no desire to really get into the business. I had found my niche and my love in business and real estate. Something my parents were supportive of, and I think a little relieved about.

“No, not really. I always wanted something different. Better isn’t the right word, but I can’t think of what else to call it.”

“Yours?”

“Yes. I guess that’s it,” I said with a smile.

“I’m sure it wasn’t easy living in your parents’ shadow even as a kid. Believe me, I understand.”

We had never talked about her family or her background, and I felt bad that I hadn’t asked. I was going to ask her how she knew when she walked away from me and over to the garage. It gave me a chance to look at her tight and sexy ass. I had no idea how a dress that didn’t look like much could look so incredible on a woman, but it did with her. It only made me think about what it would be like to take her into my arms, hold her next to me, and do so many other things.

But she was a client, and I wouldn’t cross the line, no matter how much I wanted to. With a sigh and a quick adjustment of my pants, I walked over to her.

“I see they fixed the tile,” she said as I approached.

“Everything should be repaired as you asked. If not, you can reject the inspection until they get them fixed.”

It was more complicated than that, but I knew already that everything that had needed to be fixed had been, and there shouldn’t be a problem.

“Good. Then let’s go see,” she said.

Chapter 3

Victoria

I never thought the simple act of looking at a house could be sexual, but doing it with Zach felt exactly that way. There was something different between us, something that had shifted and changed, and I couldn’t put my finger on it. I didn’t know if it was me and my feelings towards him or if he was just different.

It was one of the last times that we would see each other, and certainly the last time alone. For me, it felt final, and I didn’t like that. Though knowing that also made me a bit more reckless. I wanted him, it was as simple as that. He might be my stepbrother, he might be related to a man that was going to have a very bitter and painful divorce from my mother soon, but none of that mattered. What mattered was I had been fighting and hiding my sexual desires for a man for months, and I was done doing it.

If anything was going to happen between Zach and me, it was going to happen tonight. And as I walked around the house with him, I knew I wanted it to.

“The place looks great,” I said as I walked down the hallway.

“Yes, it’s just waiting for the new owner.”

I looked over my shoulder, and I could have sworn I saw him looking at my ass before his eyes met mine. I smiled at him and felt myself blushing. I didn’t mind that he was looking at my ass; I actually liked it. It gave me a certain thrill and confirmed that I wasn’t seeing things when it came to how he felt about me.

“It’s crazy to think that this is going to be mine soon,” I said as I walked into the bedroom.

The current owners had started to move out, but there were still some things lying around the room. The bed and some boxes were still there, but the chest of drawers and nightstands had been removed. I wondered where the former owners were going and if they had a good life in the house. The house felt like it had good bones, and I wanted it to be a good and happy place for me.

“You deserve to have this. You never gave up on finding just the right house, and you did. It fits you. You fit it. That’s important,” Zach said.

“I never thought of it that way.”

Zach was good at his job, incredible. I knew I had him to thank for the fact that I even had the house. It was a real deal and an incredible find, and one I never would have found on my own. I was sure that Zach had convinced the other realtor to let us see it and put an offer in before anyone else. I had no idea how he did; I was just glad that he had.
