“Joke’s on you, I stayed at Joshes last night. These were the only clothes he had that weren’t dirty.”

Her eyebrow quirks as a blush creeps up my chest.

“You’ve been staying there a lot lately…”

I roll my eyes, knowing exactly where this is going.

“Yes, because his apartment costs a million dollars and has an amazing view of downtown. Mine is worth a quarter of that and shows me the lovely view of the European couple across the street that loves to have sex on their balcony.” As much as I love Enzo and his wife, I do not need to see that… or hear it for that matter.

“Fair enough. You thinking about moving in?” she questions and to be honest I’ve thought about it, but part of me thinks it’s too soon and the other part of me just thinks this whole relationship is too good to be true.

“Maybe? I kind of want to get this picture scenario out of the way before we make any bigger life decisions.”

Mel holds her hand up to her mouth and pretends to fan away tears.

“What?” I say through a laugh.

“I’m so proud of you. You’re growing up!”

I throw a pen in her direction as I sit in my chair and lean back while my computer turns on.

“So what’s happening with the studio?” I ask, hoping to change the conversation.

Mel shrugs, sitting on the couch with a sigh. “It’s good. We open in a few weeks, so I’m pretty excited about that.” She’s trying to hide her smile, but I can see it sneaking through.

My best friend might pretend that she doesn’t give a shit, but for this? This is a big deal. This is her independence.

“What else do you have to do? Do you need me to do anything?”

She shakes her head, pulling out her phone as it vibrates against her knee. “No,” she mutters, obviously reading a text and smiling a huge smile and then chuckling to herself. “All I need is a few pictures and maybe some decorations.”

My eyes bug out. “So, you need to go to Home Sense… that is definitely something I am helping you with.” I wink, loving her look of despair knowing we will definitely be at that store for at least a few hours as I scour every aisle.

“Sure,” she murmurs, obviously placating me as she dips her head once more and starts texting.

“Who are you texting?” I ask, feeling a bit like a third wheel in my own office.

Her eyes lift and I see the guilt written all over her. “King.”

I burst out laughing, not expecting that name to leave her mouth. I arch an eyebrow, conveying exactly what I think she’s doing talking to him, but she shakes her head again.

“It’s not like that, we’re just friends. When I used him to make Will jealous that day at Hawk Stadium we got to talking and we actually have a lot in common.”

When I say nothing, she chuckles and leans back against the back of the couch.

“He’s a really fun guy to be around, we have a great time together, and honestly it feels nice to talk to a guy without the threat of them wanting in my pants.”

Will is going to flip the fuck out when he finds out. And I can’t wait to see it happen.

“So you’re sure nothing could ever happen between you two?”

“God no. We’ve both agreed that we wouldn’t be compatible. Can you imagine? We’d be horrible together. We are definitely better off as friends.”

I sigh in relief. “Okay good.”

She picks up her stuff, stands up and heads toward my office door, waving goodbye. I’m left to my own devices so I decide to take a walk around the gym and make sure everything is going smoothly, plus it will distract me from wanting to text Josh every three seconds.

It takes about an hour to do my rounds and when I’m finally done, I’m feeling exhausted since Josh kept me up way too late last night teasing me, touching me, and making me black out at some ungodly hour of the morning.
