Silas set the basket on the counter while Gwen quickly walked around the island and pulled it closer to her. She opened it and slowly unpacked everything and added it to the fridge.

“Did you spend all day at the beach?” Rayen asked, simply out of curiosity, but out of the corner of her eye she saw Mr. Seavey’s look of disapproval.

“Yes, the morning on the beach and the afternoon on the pier.” She pulled the book out and handed it to Silas.

He shook his head. “Keep it.”

She felt Mr. Seavey’s stare burning on her neck.

“Thank you.” She closed the basket and looked around. “Where do you usually keep it?”

“I’ll put it away.” Rayen stepped closer and reached for it.

She nodded and walked out of the kitchen only to be stopped in her tracks by Mr. Seavey’s cold voice. “Ms. Moore.”

She twirled around and looked at him. “Yes?”

“We will be leaving at nine tomorrow. Have everything packed in time.”

“Of course.”

His eyes were ice-cold, sending shivers down her spine. Trying to escape him, if only just for the moment, she turned and walked to her room. She changed into something comfortable and added body lotion to her skin. Just as she wanted to lay in bed and watch a movie, she noticed that she’d left her phone in the car. She sighed, not a fan of walking out of the room again. She quietly opened the door to see if they were still in the kitchen. Luckily, she couldn’t see anyone and rushed to the car.

As she opened the front door to get back in, she ran right into Mr. Seavey. His face instantly turned cold; his eyes filled with dissatisfaction. She looked down at her feet and walked past him. She didn’t even know what she’d done to upset him, and she was too afraid to upset him even more by asking.

She didn’t know why his behavior hurt so much, but it bothered her that it did. Not wanting to think about him more, she curled up in her bed and fell asleep to the TV playing in the background.

The next morning wasn’t any better. She woke up early, packed everything and dressed appropriately but waited to put her shoes on. Her feet still hurt, but she would just push through it. She took her laptop into the kitchen where she started to cut up some fruit to mix it with her yogurt while reading her emails. She didn’t have a printer, so she took one last look at the schedules for the day and sent them out to all three of them.

She quickly ate before walking over to the office. Mr. Seavey was sitting all by himself, his eyes resting on the screen in front of him.

“Good morning, Mr. Seavey.” She tried to make it sound light without letting him know she was still mad with him. “I’ve sent you your schedules and will print them out as soon as we get back.”

He looked up. Annoyed, he pointed at something to her right. She turned and saw a printer with papers on it that looked like her schedules. Walking over, she grabbed the papers and laid them in front of him.

“Is there anything else I can do for you?”

He shook his head without even looking at her, so she turned and left. His behavior now only angered her, she hadn’t done anything wrong and if she had he was welcome to use his words and tell her so. She was more than willing to be civil and cooperate with whatever he wanted from her. All she needed from him was feedback that was more than annoyance and anger.

Gwen went back to the kitchen to grab a glass of juice before hiding in her room again. She was pouring it when she heard someone behind her going through the papers on the counter.

“I’m sorry Gwendoline. I must have overslept our morning meeting.” Rayen seemed a little tense as he smiled at her.

“Not really a meeting.”

“Do you have everything packed?”

“Yes. Should I clean or make the bed before leaving?”

“Oh don’t worry about that. We’ll have someone come in.”

“Okay. Do you need anything?”

He looked down at the schedule, carefully reading it. “I don’t believe so. Would you mind bringing out your bags so we can add them to the car?”

“I’ll bring them right out.”

“Perfect,” he said, his eyes lighting up a little.
