Samanthagasped as he pressed his mouth to the side of her throat.Hefound her pulse point and bit possessively, sucking hard…then kissed tenderly to ease the ache, bathing the mark he’d made with his tongue until he drew a long, shaky moan from her throat.

Hisonly thought was to mark her as his own—to possess her and own herforever.Hewould protect her and provide for her and pleasure her until she cried his name in passion!Hewould—

“R’orn!What…what are you doing?”

Samantha’swords—which were moaned in a breathless voice, broke through the haze of lust and desire that had somehow taken overR’orn’smind.Hebecame aware that he was licking and kissing the vulnerable side of her throat and she was moaning steadily and—surprisingly—nottrying to push him away.

Goddess, what the fuck was wrong with him?Samanthamight be an incredibly sexy and attractiveElite, but he was herProtector, nother lover or her mate! Also, they didn’t evenlikeeach other!Whathad possessed him to act like this?

Hastilyhe straightened up and stood her back on her feet.

“I’mso fucking sorry,” he muttered, shaking his head. “I…Idon’t know what came over me.Don’tknow whyIdid that.”

“I…you…”Samanthastill looked stunned.Sheput trembling fingers to her throat andR’ornsaw that he had marked her badly—there was a dark red love spot on her neck surrounded by teeth marks—histeeth marks.

Theylooked at each other and neither one of them seemed to know what to say.Infact, the only one whodidn’tlook shocked wasMs.Primrose, theInnkeeper.

“Oh,IthinkIknow what possessed you to act like that—or shouldIsay ‘who’ possessed you,” she said toR’orn, giving him a knowing smile.

“Wait…what?”Samanthapicked up her dropped cell phone and immediately started filming again. “Pleaseexplain,” she said to theInnkeeper.

“Well, there’s a reason we call this ‘TheLover’sSuite’,”Ms.Primrosesaid, smiling mysteriously. “Yousee, the spirits ofBeauandCarolineare still here and still longing for each other.Fromtime to time they have been known to brieflyinhabitthe guests who stay here and use them to fulfill their longings.”

“Youmean theypossessthe people who stay in this room?”Samantha’seyes widened again.

“Iwouldn’t exactly call itpossession,”theInnkeeperprotested. “It’smore like theyborroworsharethe bodies of the guests who stay here and use them to fulfill their unrequited love.Youwouldn’tbelievethe storiesIget from people who stay here overnight sometimes!”Sheput a hand to her mouth and giggled girlishly. “I’vehad married couples say it was the best sex of their life—even better than their honeymoon!”

“That’s…amazing.”Samanthasounded a little uncertain and also kind of shaky.

“That’sbullshit,”R’orngrowled. “There’sno such thing as the spirit of a dead person possessing you and making you act out their fantasies and desires!”

“Oh, yeah?”Samantharounded on him, her eyes flashing. “Inthat case, why did you just grab me and bite the side of my neck?Ifyou weren’t being possessed by the spirit ofBeauregardHartford, then what excuse do you have forthis?”Shepointed to the side of her neck and glared up at him.

“I…Idon’t know,”R’ornhad to admit, frowning.

“Ibet you left a mark, too.”Samanthastrode over to the tarnished silver mirror and examined her neck. “Lookat that—a bite markanda hickey!” she exclaimed. “Doyou see that?”

R’ornwas staring at the mirror, all right, but not at the mark he’d made on her neck.Superimposedover her lovely face was another visage.

Itwas the small, blonde female he’d seen in bed with the male who had touched his shoulder,R’ornrealized.Shewas looking up at him with hopeful eyes and somehow he could see both her andSamanthawho seemed oblivious to the fact that there was another, ghostly face, covering her own.

“Look—there.”Hepointed at the mirror.

“Iamlooking!”Samantha’svoice was irritated, but it still had that breathless quality. “Imean, that’s going to takeweeksto fade!”

“No—not the bite mark!Yousay you can see spirits—can’t you see that?”

R’ornstrode over and pointed to the mirror at the ghostly face of the blonde girl.

“Seewhat?”Samanthafrowned.

“That…that human female!Shehas blonde hair and big blue eyes—a lighter blue than yours!Shehas her hair tied back in a pink ribbon!”R’ornstabbed his finger at the mirror. “Andshe’s there—right there over your own reflection!”

“Ah—Isee that the spirits have chosen to reveal themselves to you and you alone.”TheInnkeeperglided over, smiling at their images reflected in the mirror.

“What?Whywould they reveal themselves toR’orn?”Samanthafrowned. “I’mthe one withSecondSight—he doesn’t even believe in ghosts!”

“Theyoften do that here atTheBelgraveInn—they reveal themselves to the unbeliever,”Ms.Primrosesaid mysteriously. “I’vehad famous mediums and spiritualists stay here and see nothing.Andthen people who claim to disbelieve everything about the afterlife come downstairs shaken and white after a night in one of our rooms. It’smy belief that they don’t feel the need to speak to those who already believe in them—they want to make those whodon’tbelieve take notice.”
