The next night, we sat in the back of the club, watching the Greco cartel sit around, laughing and drinking together. Our money came in on time every month, so Savio had no reason to confront us about any issues. If I were them, then I’d hate us, since we killed their boss and all their top-made men, then put our own leadership into place over their territory.

Duran appeared, extending his hand for me to take. “You asked to meet.”

My eyes scanned his right-hand man, Macario, who cocked his chin up, standing, while Duran pulled his chair out in front of us.

“New team is running business smoothly,” Savio said.

“No problems so far,” Duran answered, tracking each man with his eyes.

“We have a problem, and I hope you and your men aren’t involved.” Catching the eye of his next in command, his top lip twitched, showing he knew what I was about to bring up.

I reached into my pocket, lifted the two photos of Gianney, and pushed them into Duran’s face.

“Where is he?”

“We have no contact with Gianney.”

“Duran, you and our men eat off our product. The time for games is over.”

He looked away from me. I sensed the lies were about to roll off his tongue.

“Look, Gianney came to me because he wanted to find some sister of his.”

“Sister?” I repeated, icy glare pinned onto them.

“Some girl, Natalie, Nikki, what was the name?” Duran snapped his fingers in thought.

“Nyla,” Macario said, making a rush of fear fill my body.

Jerked the photo from his hand, I lunged at him, pushing the bottles and ice on the ground.

“What the fuck are you talking about sister?”

Duran held hands in the air. “He came around one night talking about she’s his sister and they were supposed to reconnect.”

Releasing him, I slipped my cell out to dial Nyla’s number, hearing it go straight to voicemail.

“What else did Gianney say?”

“We’re not a part of whatever beef Gianney has going on.” Duran tried to wiggle out of having to answer for any lies.

Gianney texted Nyla a few days ago and probably put into her head that we were the enemy and that she should stay away from us. His random appearance after all of these years only showed that he was trying to take us down.

Duran trailed behind us out of the club. “Whatever you have going on with Gianney, is that going to be a problem for us?”

“Nyla, pick up,” I growled into the phone. I paused in front of the club, frustrated that she was not answering.

“Bring Gianney to me, and we’ll discuss it later.”

“Greco territory has nothing to do with Gianney,” Macario grimaced.

After waving a dismissing hand, Renato put them in order, and we drove back to the house. I sat in the back with Savio and Sante sitting across from me as the car left the parking structure.

“I told you something was up with her and Greco.” Renato huffed.

“You think they're really related?”

“What other reason would he have to want her on his side?”
