“She’s right—even though I hate to admit it right after a shooting,” Sante remarked.

I tried to wiggle off Vincenzo’s lap, but he had a tight hold on my waist.

“Are you sure I’m not too heavy?”

“No,” he answered.

I cupped his chin, and he grinned. I rolled my eyes at his playfulness.“Not funny.”

“Duran, Marciao, all of them need to be taken out—even if they weren’t in on the shooting,” Vincenzo announced.

Savio, Elio and Sante all nodded.

“Can I handle Gianney?” I asked.

“You already have one death under you; maybe should lay low,” Renato suggested.

“They touched what belongs to me.”

Vincenzo’s left hand grazed up my back. “What’s that?”

“My husband.”

I made myself a target the minute I told him I loved him and that I never helped Cono with his plan. There was no turning back now.

Savio took his ringing cell phone and left the room. Elio and Sante watched the video back-to-back, whispering together.

“Are you hungry?”

“Huh?”

“I asked are you hungry?”

“Vincenzo, why are you asking me about food right now? You were shot.”

“A normal routine in our line of work.”

“Is this why your brothers never wanted you in the cartel side of business?”

“Bingo.” Renato scrambled something on a piece of paper, slipping it in his pocket.

“Go out with your friends and do some shopping.”

“You’re just trying to distract me.”

“Yes,” Vincenzo answered, nuzzling his head in my neck.

“All right, but I won’t be gone for long.”

“Take Carter and Romo,” Vincenzo said.

“Soon as you move on Gianney, I want to be there.”

“Promise.”

“Renato, make sure he keeps his word,” I pushed.
