“Did your mom tell you what time they’ll be at the airport?”

“In thirty minutes.”

“Perfect. Thanks for coming with me.” I leaned my head on his shoulder.

Grief was something I always pushed to the back of my mind, never really dealing with the knowledge that I was alone in the world. After meeting through special circumstances, Vincenzo had found ways to remind me how much he cared for me and wanted me—no matter how I came to him.

Romo drove, Carter in the passenger seat on guard. Even with the Grecos gone, Vincenzo stated that being in the cartel would always make people want a piece of us. The heavy-duty caravans driving in front of us and behind us would always be a testament to my new life.

After arriving at the airport, our cars lined up. Renato and Sonya helped their kids upstairs, with Adelina and her husband behind them.

“You have two planes here?”

“I wanted us to have privacy.”

“Vincenzo, you didn’t.” I was caught up in his enthusiasm.

“My parents understood.”

“I’m so embarrassed,” I say, shaking my head.

“Why?”

My emotions caught up with me and his vibrant nearness. “Because they will know what we’re doing.”

“Have you realized my parents have five boys?”

“I really don't want to think about your parents having sex,” I tittered.

“The only sex on your mind will be ours.”

“Still. Two private jets?”

Stopping the car beside the plane and unhooking our seatbelts, we climbed out and came around to the door of the plane, greeting the staff. He hooked a finger under my chin, sucking my bottom lip, snaking his tongue inside. Pulling back, he had food, drinks, music laid out for the long flight.

“What do you want to do first when we get to Greece?”

The wheels started turning, and the pilot came on the intercom, giving directions.

“Mr Calabresi, we are preparing for takeoff.”

Watching the airport fade away as we take off, I thought of how beautiful it will be to see some of the places I saw as a child with my new family.

Once we landed in Santorini and rested in our suites, we had early breakfast on the table from the private chef, and then we went sightseeing and hung out with the kids and his parents.

Afterward, Adelina planned a dinner for the family. Nothing would ever compare to seeing all their faces and the love we all had for each other. Wine was poured, and food was brought to our table. When the Calabresis made their presence known, everything stopped, and the staff rolled out the red carpet. We were sitting at the table, and the two of them were going back and forth about how she wanted the next few days to go for everyone, and how he wanted to just relax with his wife, without any real plans. I laughed at Renato and Adelina, arguing back and forth. I couldn’t help but wonder how a stone-cold killer could always back down when his mother put him in his place.

“Nyla, we planned everything around you and Vincenzo. You have the final say.”

Putting my fork down, I linked hands with Vincenzo on the table. “Honestly, I would like to make it like a trip where everyone can do their own thing.”

She exhaled. Renato winked at me, and his mother smacked the back of his head.

“Eat your food,” Adelina spat.

“The party’s tomorrow, right?”

“Yes, we have the party tomorrow night, afterwards you two can do whatever you’d like.”
