Groaning, I patted her on the butt. “I hate surprises.” I brushed my lips across hers.

“Come on, silly man.” She pulled back, took my hand, and walked me from the kitchen to the living room, which had no furniture.

“Where’s the furniture?”

“I moved it to storage.”

“Why?”

“Just for today. I’ll bring it back in once were done.”

“Done with what?”

Nyla picked up a strawberry and tossed it into her mouth. “You will see. Sit down.”

“What are you up to, Nyla?”

“I want to have a picnic and take pictures of us together.”

“Huh?”

“I’m not able to give you the extravagant things. You’re already rich, so I thought it would be cute to do a little picnic and photo shoot,” she said with a shrug.

“Baby, you’re rich.”

She waved me off. “No, I’m not.”

“You have bank accounts with millions of dollars in your name.”

Nyla pulled the camera up to her eye and snapped. “That money is yours.”

“What’s mine is yours, never forget that.”

She sighed and reached for another strawberry. “I hear you, but for now, do you like the picnic?” Focusing the camera on me again, she snapped.

“It’s nice.”

“Really? You’re not just saying that to gas me up?”

Chuckling, I kicked off my shoes, losing my shirt and plopping down on the floor, popping the bottle of white wine open.

“There’s something I need to talk to you about.”

Nyla snapped pictures of me and sat down next to me. “Go ahead.”

“I had a meeting today.”

“You always have meetings.” She fed me a grape.

“True, but it was a little different.”

“In what way?” Nyla scooped pasta salad onto a fork and lifted it to my mouth.

“You cook that?”

“Yep, I gave the chef today off.”

“I’m the underboss of the cartel,” I blurted out.
