“Please, he can get your money! Just let us go,” she pleaded, snot and tears running down her face.

“You thought it was wise to steal from me?”

Blood seeped from his nose and mouth, and he spat on the floor. “Fuck you!”

I backhanded him hard. “Wrong time to piss me off.”

“My connections won’t let you kill me,” he boasted through clenched teeth.

I chuckled. “Connections, huh?” I glanced at Renato. He shook his head, and I sent a bullet through the man’s brain.

"No!" Nyla screamed as her boyfriend slumped beside her.

I moved my gaze from his dead body to her. “I’ll ask once more. Where is my money?”

Her chest heaved as panic overwhelmed her. I wasn’t always an asshole. Being raised by my mother and sisters-in-law saved me from being completely cold-hearted. But I knew I would never find my five million dollars if I gave in to her.

“I can’t believe you killed him.” She burst into tears.

I knelt in front of her. “Where is my five million dollars, Nyla?”

“I don’t know,” she whispered miserably.

“You came to me for a job. I helped you, and you stole from me.”

She exhaled heavily. “I promise I can get it back.”

Her resolve should have come before she’d betrayed me. “How did a beautiful woman like you get mixed up with a guy like him?”

She raised her chin. “His friends are going to look for me.”

“Friends who helped you rob my casino? Too bad they left you holding the bag.”

Her eyes threw daggers at me. “We weren’t supposed to end up dead.”

“I'm tired and ready for bed. Where’s my money?” If she thought I had any compassion that she’d been left behind, she was sadly mistaken.

She slumped in the chair. “I don’t know.”

“Then I have to kill you.” I stood, ready to kill again and salvage my night.

“Wait! You can’t kill me.”

I tilted my head. “Why is that?”

“Because my family can pay the debt.”

“Your family?”

Tears brimmed in her eyes. “Let me go first.”

I leaned forward and grabbed her chin, my lips an inch from hers. Her attempts to negotiate were infuriating.

“Let her talk,” Renato interrupted.

I whipped my head around, frowning as he tried to take over the conversation. “Fuck her!” I barked.

Nyla’s puppy dog eyes moved between Renato and me, pleading for mercy.
