I nodded. “Make it a double.”

Savio handed me my drink. “It sounds like Cono and his niece are cut from the same cloth. Elio’s background check revealed he’s in debt.”

“Nyla has a five-million trust fund he never told her about. She can only access it when she marries.”

“So he proposed you marry his niece to get the money back.”

“Yes. He said if I don’t marry her, he’ll turn in evidence implicating you in the deaths of Viviana and Gennaro Greco.”

“Does he not realize that threatening to blackmail the Calabresi family is bad for his health? How long did he give you to decide?”

“Twenty-four hours.”

“Elio and Renato need to know. We ensured there would be no leaks after the explosion that killed Viviana.”

Their deaths still felt like yesterday. Savio had paid a few higher-ups in law enforcement to cover up the truth.

“I want my money back, but marrying Nyla is out of the question.”

“Would it be so bad? She’s beautiful.”

I bit back my reply. Nyla meant nothing to me beyond money, but I didn’t like that my brother had noticed her beauty for some reason.

The door opened, and Renato and Sante entered.

“You didn’t answer my text,” Renato growled, pouring himself a drink.

I quickly checked my phone. “You want to kill Cono before I get my money?”

Renato shrugged and gulped his drink. “He has a life insurance policy. We take his business and get your money back.”

“Cono wants Vincenzo to marry Nyla in exchange for the evidence against me and the five million,” Savio told our brothers.

“And he gets what?” Sante demanded.

“The Sartori family is brought into the fold.”

Sante’s head cocked back in surprise. “As in the round table?”

“It’s always been five families, even when our grandfather was the Don,” Renato said.

“Six families mean an even split in votes,” Savio pointed out.

“So, marry her, then we kill him and get the money. He has limited resources,” Renato suggested.

“I’m not the marrying type.” My brothers were happy with their wives and kids, but I liked the single life.

“The marriage would only last long enough to get the money and dispose of Cono,” Renato said.

I looked up as Mckayla entered with Carter and Nyla.

“I told you to stay in the car!” I barked, moving toward her and grabbing her arm.

Mckayla looked shocked at my outburst. “She needs to use the restroom.”

“Mckayla, stay out of his business,” Savio said softly.

Nyla jerked herself from my grip. I went to grab her again, but Mckayla blocked me.
