Elio: The Greco family are no longer our friends.

Me: I agree. We should reevaluate.

My head snapped up as the door opened. Nyla looked like she’d seen a ghost.

Cono walked out behind her with a satisfied smile and extended a hand. “Call me when you’ve made your decision.”

I left him hanging as I tugged Nyla from the house. She didn’t say a word as we climbed into the car.

My phone buzzed, and I answered.

“Where are you?” Savio asked.

“In the car heading back to the office.”

My stomach dropped as I thought about Cono revealing what had happened to Viviana Greco and putting our family in danger. Savio and my father had demanded loyalty from Viviana’s father and brothers, but their betrayal had put the final nail in the coffin for the Greco family.

“Come here first,” Savio instructed.

“Is Mckayla there?”

“She is. Why?”

“Something is wrong with Nyla. I thought McKayla could talk to her.”

“What do you mean?”

“She hasn’t blinked or said a word once since leaving Cono’s office.”

“Talk to her.”

I scoffed at his suggestion. “Talk to her about what?”

“I can hear you,” Nyla whispered. Her gaze was fixed out the window as we stopped at a red light.

I narrowed my eyes at her but didn’t reply. “We’ll be there soon,” I told Savio before ending the call.

Nyla tapped her fingers on her thigh nervously. “Uncle Cono told me I had to marry you to pay off the debt. In exchange, the Sartori family will become the sixth family in the alliance.”

It was clear from her tone that she wasn’t on board with either demand. It seemed we had something in common.

“Did you know?”

She whipped her head to face me. “Did I know what?”

“That he had evidence on my family.”

“No. Uncle Cono has never involved me in his affairs.”

The car arrived at Savio’s home. “I need to meet with my brother. Stay here.”

“In the car?”

“Yes. Savio won’t welcome the woman who stole from us. He’s ten times worse than me when it comes to protecting our family.”

After hugging Mckayla and high-fiving my nephew, I shook hands with my brother and followed him into the living room.

Savio lifted a bottle of St. Jameson’s with a raised eyebrow.
