“I’ll explain later.”

“All you should be worried about is living the life as the wife of Vincenzo here.”

“Mark was right about you.” I stormed from the house.

Vincenzo called my name and stopped me from getting in the car. “What the hell was that back there?”

My voice trembled. “Can we just go?”

Picking up my chin, Vincenzo wiped the tears away. “Look at me.”

I shook my head no.

“Nyla.”

Opening my eyes, his upper lip curled into a smile. “You have a family now.”

“Are you sure they want me?”

He unlocked the car door and opened it for me. “More than sure. Tell me you got the papers.”

Removing what I had in my purse, I passed them to Vincenzo as the car pulled away. He studied the documents with a deep frown. “Did you read these?”

“No, I just took everything and left.”

“He’s lying.”

“Lying about what?” I snatched the papers from his hands.

“There is no trust fund. Fuck!” Vincenzo cursed.

“Huh?”

“It's all a plan to get a seat in the cartel—and now, if we refuse, then he’ll put the evidence out about my brothers killing Greco.”

“Wait, Greco as in Gianney Greco’s people?”

“There’s more to the story.”

“Oh, shit.” Revelation creeped into my head, and I slouched in my seat.

“What?”

“He played us both.”

“Played us?” Vincenzo repeated.

“Remember I told you Mark and Cono were on a recording together?”

“Yeah, something about them working together.”

“All this time, it was a setup for you and me to get married, so he could be in the cartel. He never loved me; he just went along like he cared when I started dating Mark.”

“Help me understand.”

“Cono told me I was adopted; I wasn't really a Sartori by blood.”

“Hold up, Nyla, you have to be confused.”
