“Rena, stay out of it.”

Sante cuffed her hand, pulling her away. “He’s right Rena, let's go.”

“Grab your things,” I said.

“No,” Nyla spat.

Over her tantrums, I bent down and lifted her over my shoulder.

“Put her down, Vincenzo,” Cassandra shouted, rising from her chair. “Help her, Ralph.”

The man sitting next to her looked from Cassandra to me to my brothers. “Cassandra, stay out of that man’s business,” Ralph said.

Cassandra glared at him and sat back down.

While wiggling her legs, Nyla hit me on the back and screamed, “Vincenzo! Oh, my God, put me down!”

“Take her things and put them in the car,” I told Sonya.

Sonya nodded, then helped calm Nyla down.

The crowd around us stood back, whispering at the scene.

Once we were out of the club, I placed her on her feet, gently shoved her against the car door, blocking her eyeline of the girls.

“Seriously, you are a fucking asshole.”

“What are your issues?”

“Why do you even care? You plan on getting rid of me, anyway. I might as well have a night of fun.” Ignoring my stare, she lifted her chin.

Quietly, I told her why I cared. “Cono is going to die. He’s crossed the line, and now you're out here making yourself a target.”

“Target? He's not going to hurt me.”

“Gianney and Cono have something going on, and you're the focal point.”

Kicking the rock next to feet, dipping her head low. “Why do you even care?”

“Nyla.”

“Keep it real, Vincenzo. Are you interested in me for me, or just to get the evidence back and your money?”

“Get in the car.”

After shaking her head, she turned and climbed into the car. After talking with my brothers, we planned to meet in the next few days to come up with a plan to handle Cono and Gianney.

While standing in the middle of the bar in my man cave with my sleeves rolled up, I guzzled another shot of bourbon. Once we got back to the house, Nyla went in and locked herself in the bedroom, ignoring me.

During the car ride, her soft tears had stabbed me in the chest, and the moment I tried to reach out to comfort her, she moved closer to the window.

Sante and Renato texted to say that Savio heard about the way I acted, but I didn’t care, since all three of them had done way worse than me.

“Come in.” I looked up at the chef standing in the middle of the doorway.

“Sir, I’m leaving for the night,” he informed me.

“Thanks, I left a check for you on the counter.”
