“I know, and that’s why I think we might need to just end it before anything more happens.”

“Cono thinks you’re just a young girl he can manipulate. You are my wife and a Calabresi.”

“But your money.”

“I’ll get it back. I already have a plan in motion.”

“What plan?”

“Once I catch up with Gianney and learn what he knows, we can get Cono at the same time.”

“Not sure it’s that easy.”

“Cono Sartori will get handled, trust me.”

Pulling my hand to his lips, I say, “There’s something else I want to talk to you about.”

“Go ahead.”

Now would be the perfect opportunity to ask about me meeting with Gianney. Maybe the girls are right to leave it alone between the men and let them handle the cartel.

“So, if I wanted to look for a job, you wouldn’t mind?”

“What type of job?”

Cutting into my food, taking a piece of fish. “Haven’t figured out if I want to go back to studying nursing or something else.”

“You're young, and you have my support.”

“Growing up, did your mom work?”

“She was a stay-at-home mom. What about yours?”

I stroked his hand. “She was a stay-at-home mom. My dad, as you know, renounced the family business.”

“They raised a beautiful woman.”

“Even the evil bitch that robbed you?” I tested.

Vincenzo laid his fork on the table. “Nothing about you is evil or a bitch. Let's take this food to go and get to the dessert.”

Cupping my chin, I grinned. “Ready to spend the rest of the evening in bed?”

“I had a long day of meetings, and Angelina left my schedule in chaos.”

Angelina would have been worse if he’d actually had a relationship with her. “Thank God you got rid of her. Does she know any of your side businesses? Like, are you worried she’ll expose your family’s cartel information?”

I leaned forward, and he grasped my hand, kissing the back of my palm. I was mesmerized by how attentive Vincenzo was when it came to me.

The waitress approached with the bill, and Vincenzo signed and left a tip in cash. “Do you need any money?”

He glared at me. “Never will you have to pay when out with me.” Vincenzo cupped me close with his hand on my back. I tapped him on the nose, pressing a kiss on his lips.

Chapter 16

Vincenzo

With the new week rolling around, I decided to keep some of the details of what we were preparing for Cono to myself—especially after having dinner with Nyla and hearing her concerns about Angelina, and how she’d been keeping it under wraps that Cono had started to make a name for himself by reaching out to other board members and threatening them into supporting his seat.
