She turns and looks at me. “I’ll never get tired of you, Link. You’re stuck with me.”

“Good. That makes this next part a lot easier.” I take her hand, then slip off the plastic ring she’s been wearing for the last year.

“What are you doing?”

“I know you love this ring. But it’s time to replace it with…” I dig in my pocket and take out the engagement ring I’ve been afraid to give her for the last month. “I’d like to replace it with this one.” I slide it onto her finger. She looks down at her hand, her mouth forming a little ‘o’ of shock as her eyes flood with tears. Her free hand runs across the pear-shaped pink and diamond ring it took ages for me to pick out. I wanted it to be perfect.

“Oh my gosh!” She throws her arms around my neck. “I can’t believe you… How did you…?

“Only the best for my cheerleader.”

She kisses me and hugs me again. “It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

I hold up the plastic ring. “Can we get rid of this now?”

She takes it from me. “No. I told you I’m keeping it forever and ever. But I will retire it.” She holds up her hand. “Because I have the perfect ring.”

I take both her hands. “I’m glad you like it and all. But it comes with a question.”

She nods and stares at me, her eyes glistening.

“Allyssa. I know you have a rule about dating cops. But does that include marrying one?”

“I broke my rule last Halloween.”

“Oh, right. So what do you say, will you marry me? You, me, and Rosie. Together forever?”

She hugs me again. “Yes, Officer Brandt. You, me, and Rosie. Together forever.”
