“I don’t know.”Other than carnally.

He was wearing a tight black tee shirt and even tighter midnight jeans, the dense material folding around every centimeter of his muscular thighs. The shirt clung to him, wet from the rain and sculpted across the dense carvings of his body. Even in the dimness, I could see the horrific scar cutting into his gorgeous face, the jagged edge slicing down from just under his eye to his angular chin. For some women, the cut would be a repellent, as if his magnificent beauty could no longer matter.

For this woman, the slight imperfection was electrifying, drawing me even further into a strangled web of desire. I longed to kiss and lick down every inch. Blinking, I took a deep breath, forcing myself to look away.

“He seems to know you,” she whispered.

There wasn’t a person in close proximity who didn’t notice the stranger standing in my bar. I could feel such a sense of power, his quiet methods completely dominating the entire place. His eyes were piercing and while from this distance I was unable to tell their color, I was able to gather a glimpse into the man’s soul.

What I witnessed should be terrifying, but not for me. He obviously wanted to see me again.

He gave me a nod of respect, his eyes falling to my chest, a slight smile curling on his lip.

Swallowing, I realized my fingers were numb from the ice, and the fact I’d allowed the cubes to fall into my shirt.

His eyes twinkling, he darted a quick glance to my well-spanked ass then slowly turned his head, scanning the entire room before walking into the crowd. There were no open seats at the bar and in truth, I doubted he would find an empty table.

Daphne gripped my arm, the hold tight. “I’ve never seen him before. Wow. Why don’t I find out where he went, just in case he’s in my section?”

“That was… Interesting.” Pappy gulped his beer then took a look over his shoulder. “He’s not from around here.”

“How can you tell?”

“You can always tell, sunshine. His swagger. The way he looked at you.” Winking, Pappy lifted his beer. “Could be interesting. Could also mean trouble.”

“Funny, Pappy. I’m not looking for a man and any more trouble I definitely don’t need in my life.” Both proclamations might be the truth, but I still peered through the crowd, trying to locate where he’d gone. Electricity continued to course through every muscle and my nipples were scraping against the thin lace of my bra.

I refilled orders until Daphne returned, a wicked grin on her face. “Let me guess,” I muttered.

“He’ll have a whiskey, neat.” Daphne leaned over the bar, swirling a finger in her long hair. “He’s one hot man. Doesn’t say much. Half grunted his order. I bet he’s one dangerous asshole though. Did you see that scar on his face? Jesus H. Christ.”

I resisted even acknowledging her statement, although I was more interested than ever. “As long as he pays his bill and doesn’t make any trouble, I don’t care.” I wanted to yell at her for admonishing his mark of… I wasn’t even certain what word would suit what I was thinking.

“Maybe he’s a criminal, an escapee,” Tina said, flanking Daphne’s side. “He’s huge and you should see his eyes. Penetrating. Then that damn scar. Could have been a model without that.”

I envisioned him naked, his thick cock throbbing as he beckoned me to suck him.Stop before you make a fool out of yourself.Yeah, yeah. I hated the inner voice who was always right. After sliding the drink across the bar, I gave Daphne a certain look. “If he wants to run a tab, make certain you get a credit card.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

I followed her with my eyes until she disappeared into the crowd. What was the man’s story? My curiosity getting the better of me, I walked toward the front door, peering out the window and searching for any sign of his motorcycle. There wasn’t a single motorcycle in sight. The motel was a solid two miles from here, if not further. Sure, anyone could walk it, but why? For this place? A single creepy crawlie skittered along the back of my neck. Could he have been sent here to find me?

Get a grip, Crystal.

I rolled my eyes and went back to work, although my mind wasn’t far away from the mysterious hunk. I’d been completely reckless with my actions.

“He gave me a hundred-dollar bill. Told me to keep the change,” Daphne squealed then slapped her hand across her mouth.

“Big spender,” one of the men at the bar huffed.

“He wants something,” Pappy mumbled.

“To impress. No doubt.” I was going to be more than curious to see what he did on round two.

I found myself finding reasons to walk into the main portion of the lounge, getting closer to where he sat. If he was watching television, there was no way of knowing, but every time I moved past, his gaze was locked on following me. And every time I walked within a few feet, goosebumps popped along every inch of naked skin. The man was a magnet, drawing me closer until I almost broke out of my comfort zone, asking pointed questions.

Almost.

Rounds two and three were met with the same gesture, making Daphne giddier than I’d ever seen her. The man had money, yet he was staying in a shit motel.
