The grin on his face kept quivers trickling down the backs of my legs. “Not fair.”

“Who said anything in life was fair? And I think given your bad behavior, I’m going to develop a maintenance program, spanking you two or three times a week. Now, let’s go.”

A sudden flash swept through my mind. The dream I’d had months before when we were in St. Barts. This was remarkably like it. I was concentrating so hard on remembering every little detail of the filthy dream that I’d ignored his command.

Not a good thing.

Maddox swept me off my feet, tossing me over his shoulder. “You’re coming with me.”

“This won’t be good for the baby.”

“Uh-huh. Nice try.”

I laughed even though I pummeled his back as he headed down the long hallway toward the kitchen. “I’ll get you for this.”

“I’d really love to see you try.”

Whoever said love was a many splendored thing certainly knew what they were talking about. My heart was as full as my life, the closeness I felt to my family extraordinary. My grandfather and grandmother had remained in the city and every birthdayand holiday, every achievement had been a celebration of family and close friends. The fullness of my life and my heart was something I would never have believed possible only a few months before.

Yet here I was with the man of my dreams, our little family ready to expand in a few short months. I was truly blessed.

He eased me onto my feet, cupping both sides of my face as he so very often did. Unlike the dream, as he lowered his head, brushing his lips across mine, it caused me to swoon, the heat building between us. When he finally kissed me, it was tender at first, allowing my heart to soar. As it became more passionate, I clung to him, fisting his shirt and arching my back.

But with all good things, it was time for the intimate moment to shift into something else. Maddox took a step back, giving me a stern look. “Remove your clothes while I find the perfect implement.”

I bit my lower lip, watching as he moved toward the kitchen drawers. Of course, I knew exactly what he was going to choose. One big wooden spoon. He even whistled, the joy in his heart making mine burst with happiness.

“When you’re finished undressing, lie across the table and grip the edge. This spanking is going to hurt.”

Grinning, I did what he asked, folding my clothes as neatly as I’d done in the dream. As I leaned over the table, I couldn’t help but be thankful that we’d both taken a chance on love.

As the powerful man approached, he twirled the identical wooden spoon I’d seen in my dream, something he’d only recently purchased out of the blue. I suddenly remembered my father had told me so long ago that my mother had believed inkarma. She’d had a favorite quote that she’d handwritten in a poem to my father, something he’d placed behind the picture I’d kept of her on my nightstand.

“Every action of our lives touches on some chord that will vibrate in eternity.”The beautiful thought had been said by someone named Edwin Hubbell Chapin, a man I didn’t know but his words held a new meaning for my life and my future.

My mother was with me, blessing the future.

Maddox’s mother was looking down on us from heaven with a smile on her face.

As the man of my dreams brought the spoon down, the crackle of electricity sparked again, allowing me to feel more alive than ever before.

All because we’d taken a chance on believing in karma.

The End
