“It all started with my Ma.”

Iwatched Katerina, my entire focus on her. I needed her to understand.

“My Ma was a marine biologist. She dedicated her life to studying the Great Barrier Reef. She met my father while in the Whitsundays while researching the migration patterns of the humpback whales in the area. He was a chef at one of the resorts, they bonded over his sweet pastries and a mutual love for the ocean.” I smiled at the memory of my Pa telling me he cooked the cinnamon rolls just for my mother after she said she was missing them.

“My Ma was also a huge activist. She was involved in one of the big ones known as the Sea Warriors. She was quite proud of the fact that she had been arrested a few times in her youth.” I said with a laugh, the others chuckling as well.

“Her and some of the other members had been fighting to get the dolphins free from OceanWorld and it had been her main regret before the dementia set in, that she couldn’t save them.So us kids took it upon ourselves to finish what our parents started.” I ran my hand over my neck.

“Before Pa died, he gave me all the information they had on the security systems, he was quite savvy with a computer back then and he had scored a job at the high end restaurant there so he knew a lot of ins and outs. When Ma began to get sick, he retired and got the café.” I shrugged as if I hadn’t just told them all my entire life in a nutshell.

“So you are a member of this group? You are a badass activist. I salute you.” Hamish said and Leo nodded.

“I can see why you are so passionate about it. You should have told us though. We could help.” Leo said and I stared at him, not sure what to say.

“You said the cops arrived? So someone sold you out?” Katerina asked and I sat back in the chair with a sigh.

“Yeah. The entire team got arrested. Most should get out fine, but a few may be stuck with their records, and this is a huge company we are dealing with. I didn’t say anything because my name was on a watch list for a while now, so I hadn’t been active.” I said as I looked at Katerina.

“Well, I won’t shoot you. And I will help you.” She added and I frowned.

“I don’t understand.” I started and she stopped me with a kiss.

“Riley. This is your life. Your legacy from your mother and your father. I understand that. Mine was to be in a life of crime. Yours is to save innocent creatures. Crime can do good too, so we will help you.” She said with a smile before the phone rang.

“It’s Mikhail,” Alexsei said as he looked at the screen.

Katerina answered it, putting it straight onto speaker.

“Mikhail.” she said firmly.

“I have a gift for you.” He said with a chuckle.

“What would that be?” She asked as we all looked at each other.

“I found Victor.”

Ilet out a breath as excitement ran through me.

“Where is he?" I asked and Mikhail made a sound of annoyance as he spoke softly to someone in the background.

“We have him in the Madden warehouse right now. You want us to bring him there?” Mikhail asked and I glanced at the others who were nodding.

“No. I’m done hiding. It’s time I came back and with Victor missing, that should show them I mean business.” I said and Leo and Hamish began to protest. I shot them a look, noticing Alexsei’s slight smile.

He understood.

I couldn’t hide forever.

“We’ll keep him on ice then. When will you be back?” Mikhail asked.
