I still couldn’t figure him out and his willingness to just slide into my life was unnerving. I didn’t know if I could trust him.

“I was thinking that the people I would have called in to do this job aren’t exactly people who would be happy to see me, and Idon’t think I can ask for a favor.” I glanced at Hamish’s driveway and annoyance rolled through me.

All those bikes were in the driveway again which meant he would be up at the crack of dawn making noise.

“You never know until you ask. What harm will come from asking?” He said and I hummed in agreement.

Fuck it. I pulled out my phone and dialed Anatoly.

“Katerina. Did the devil send you to collect my soul?” He answered dryly and I winced but put the steel in my voice they were used to.

“I need your help on something. I will pay you. Can you do a job for me?” I asked and I heard the muffled sounds of someone else speaking until a feminine voice filtered through.

“Are you going to get them killed, Katerina? Because I will hunt you down myself if you get them hurt.” Rosslyn said and I couldn’t stop the smile.

That girl had spunk and I admired her strength.

“Hello Rosslyn. It is a simple in-and-out job to get someone who is causing issues for me, I don’t expect there to be any issues.” I said and I heard the chuckles of others. I was obviously on loudspeaker.

“Is Alexsei causing you problems? We heard about the shootout.” Gabriel purred.

“You know he is. He will become a problem for everyone if I don’t get him under control. There was a reason Ivan never gave him much power.” I warned them and I knew they understood why.

“We will help. Only because we understand the problem. We will come with others too, so you don’t stab us in the back. Send us the details of a meeting point.” Anatoly said as he hung up.

I groaned a little as Leo held his thumbs up.

“See? Went well.” He said and I grunted as I stared at the stupid fucking motorbike.

I would show Hamish just who he was dealing with.

Grinning to myself, I got out of the car and hurried over to his driveway, pulling out my knife. I searched for his bike and shoved the knife into the tire, watching as it deflated.

When I came back to my driveway, Leo was shaking his head with a wry grin.

“You have no idea what you just did. You can’t touch a man’s toys and not have some kind of repercussion.” He said and I shrugged.

“I don’t care. I fucking hate that thing and if I have to hear it again in the morning, I’ll kill him instead. This was the safer option for everyone involved.” I added and he shook his head.

“If you say so. I’ll be here tomorrow morning to pick you up.” He opened his door, and I stopped him.

“Why? This doesn’t make any sense. You have just assigned yourself to my side, watched a shoot out, me kill a man and you don’t care?” He seemed too good to be true and that was what had me so damn cautious.

“I told you. I’m not a good man and I don’t want to see someone else get hurt if I can prevent it.” The unspoken words were there.

Because of his sister.

“I’m not your sister.” I said softly and he nodded, pain flashing in his eyes.

“I know. But I can’t help feeling like she brought you into my life. She was a lot like you, even looked similar to you and I may not believe in God, but I do believe in something bigger than myself. So, I’ll be here until you tell me to leave.” He flashed me a smile before climbing into his car and driving away.

I liked him, and that terrified me. It would be easy to fall in love with a guy like him and that was the one thing I couldn’t do.

Seven

Hamish

The sound of my phone vibrating on the bedside table woke me from my sleep and I fumbled for it, groaning when the light made my head pulse like it would explode.
