“Are you serious right now? Who even says things like that.” I muttered and he leaned toward me, draping an arm around the back of my chair.

“Deadly. I think if we did it, we would get each other out of our systems and then we can move on with life.” He said and I couldn’t figure out if he was joking or serious.

“What? Your boyfriends already wear you out?” He asked and I looked away.

“Ohhhh, you haven’t done that already. Interesting. Well. I say we meet up tonight and do the deed then go our separate ways.” He said as if it were the most sane thing to say.

“You’re insane. How about we talk about how you know who I am?” I said, changing the subject.

“I have connections in my job.” He said cryptically and a chill went down my spine.

Who was he really?

“What is it you do, Hamish?” I asked warily and he shrugged.

“I defend the unjust. I’m a lawyer.” He said. Interesting. He didn’t seem to be lying.

“I have connections to people who work for the places we aren’t supposed to know exist. I did a background check on the man who showed up to your home that led to a check on you.” He raised an eyebrow at me.

“I don’t know what to say to that.” I said and he leaned forward, his lips brushing my ear as the crowd grew louder.

“You could say that you will meet me tonight.” He whispered and I shook my head.

“No. I am not fucking you. I have no interest in you.” I lied. Because honestly, his cocky attitude was getting under my skin in a way I hadn’t expected.

He knew who I was and had no fear, in fact, he had done everything to push me further.

“You owe me for the mess of my driveway and those half-eaten donuts. They were for my mother.” He said and I turned to look at him, feeling bold.

“You started it with that annoying motorcycle.” I snapped and he laughed.

“What do you have against bikes?” He asked and I sighed as we watched a barely dressed woman enter the ring with a bunch of signs.

“Nothing. I just don’t appreciate being woken up at the crack of dawn.” I snarled and he leaned back in his chair.

“I see. Well, I’ll have to remember that for next time. Perhaps a morning fuck would be a better option?” He said, amusing in his eyes.

“You’re insufferable. I’m going to get drinks. Stay here and try not to annoy anyone. Riley should be here any minute.” I said, getting up before he could protest.

In truth, I needed space. I had gone from no relationship or any hint at intimacy outside of the random hookups when I had needs to having two men claiming me as their girlfriend and a third asking for sex constantly.

I didn’t trust it. It felt too good to be true and beneath it all, the guilt I felt at the possibility of moving on from Yuri was beginning to eat away at me.

I pushed past the crowds of people to the bar, frustration getting to me when they jostled me. I hate crowds. I don’t make a habit of putting myself in these situations because it just makes me angry and it wasn’t socially acceptable for me to shoot or stab people for making me mad.

I felt a prickling feeling on the back of my neck, the kind you get when you just know you are being watched and looked around.

My blood chilled when I saw a man hidden in the shadows and I tried to make out his face before a group of young men laughing walked past me, blocking my view.

When they moved, the man was gone.

Maybe it was just my paranoia. No one was stupid enough to do something here, I was in a crowded environment.

I sighed and pushed through two older men to get to the bar and wasn’t ashamed to say I was hoping being a woman would get the bar tenders' attention, so I didn’t have to wait.

I wasn’t above flirting to get served sooner.

The crowds cheered as an announcer came on, talking about the stats for tonight’s fight and people pushed forward, bumping into each other.
