“Fine. Send me a list. I’ll be back in an hour then we can go.” I took the keys to Leo’s car and headed to the door when Katerina stopped me.

“Hey I ah, need you to get some things for me. I would go, but I don’t want to risk being seen right now and I don’t want to connect you to me any more than you already are.” She said softly and I tucked her hair behind her ear.

“It’s fine, Kat. What do you need?” I watched her cheeks turn pink before she huffed a breath.

“Could you maybe get me some underwear since I still haven’t replaced the ones that Hamish took, and I need some… women’s supplies.” She muttered and I had to bite my cheek to stop the laugh.

“You have a preference for what you want?” I asked and she raised an eyebrow at me.

“You aren’t embarrassed or freaked out about it?” She said and I laughed.

“No. Do you think I am going to get upset about a normal bodily function that you have? Besides, all my staff are mostly women. I hear more than enough period talk to understand the basics.” Her eyes narrowed at the mention of my staff, and I wasn’t going to admit it to her, but I secretly loved how jealous she was.

“Well, I prefer pads. I don’t have a preferred brand. Maybe grab some of the period underwear for the nighttime.” She said, her cheeks were still a touch pink.

“Of course. I’ll get you what you need.” I leaned in to kiss the tip of her nose, inhaling her subtle scent of perfume.

“Take my card.” She said as she handed me one of those shiny black credit cards that I am pretty sure meant it had no limit.

“No. I can afford it.” I said stubbornly and she narrowed her eyes, shifting her stance in a way that I knew meant she was going to protest.

“I know you can, but I have more. This is my fault, so I am paying.” She snapped and I smiled slowly, watching as her eyes turned wary.

“Wouldn’t it be a bad idea for me to use your card? Couldn’t that be tracked against you?” I crooned and she glared. I had her and she knew it.

“Fine.” She gritted out as I walked to the car.

This was a good opportunity. I wasn’t happy about the circumstances, but I did like the idea that we were going to get the opportunity to spend some time together without any distractions.

I got into Leo’s car and paused when I saw my phone light up with messages. One was Leo’s list of healthy foods that seemed boring and expensive.

The second message though, had me crashing back down to reality.

Unknown: the date is set. We are moving in two weeks. You will be sent the details to access the system as our cover. The payload is the biggest hit we have ever attempted. All hands on deck. #warriorsfortheearth

I winced. It wasn’t that I didn’t like what I did. I chose to get involved and I could walk away at any time. But things were different right now and I didn’t know how to tell Kat about this side of my life and what she would think.

So for now, I will keep it to myself.

We pulled into the driveway of the secluded cabin on the lake, and I stared in awe.

When they said it was a cabin, I thought small and quaint. This thing was like a country lodge that you expected celebrities or presidents to holiday in.

It was huge. The windows were floor-to-ceiling on the side overlooking the wooded area that led to Lake Underwood.

The front door was two large wooden doors that seemed to be ancient and modern all at once, the front giving hunting lodge vibes and the back of the building a more sophisticated spa resort.

It was stunning and the late autumn colors from the trees lit up the landscape in a way that took the breath away.

“Wow. They sure know how to do safe house in style.” Riley muttered and I hummed in agreement.

“The security system has been updated since they came out last. I’m not super good with computers though so I don’t knowwhat to do with it to make sure it is all online.” I said as we got out of the car.

“I’ll take a look. I majored in IT through university.” Riley said with a glance at me and smiled sheepishly.
