Alec tsked loudly. “Now, now. We don’t want Sie’s future wife not adoring him. You will like him from now on.” Alec’s golden markings drew further up his neck.

If I was compelled, would all of my anger toward Sie disappear? Would I no longer be confused as to how I felt about him? Would I not remember why, but suddenly like him without question?

I mindlessly repeated, “I will like him.” Sie shifted in his seat again, amused or uncomfortable, I couldn’t tell.

“Now go over to your future husband,” Alec purred. “Apologize for calling him an asshole like a good wife. Show him how sorry you truly are.”

I went to stand up, but Alec shook his head. “No, crawl to him.”

I gritted my teeth at his command. Reagan and the other girl snickered as they moved out of the way, leaving Sie alone on the sofa. His eyes never left mine as I awkwardly crawled over to him, cursing under my breath. Shame and humiliation swept over me as I put one arm in front of the other. There was no way of crawling gracefully, and my dress kept getting caught on my knees.

This will be over soon. I will make them all regret this someday. As soon as we figured out what the High Council was planning, and I didn’t have the threat of someone trying to kill me…

If someone was even trying to kill me. Was it all a lie? Maybe Sie never thought someone from the High Council was out to get me. Maybe this was all some sick joke between his friends. Did they all know I couldn’t be compelled with Sie’s necklace? Was this part of the game to see how long I would play along?

No, it couldn’t be. Someone here had to know I was from Lux. Why else would the High Council select a rank zero to marry Sie if they wanted to make things worse for nixes? I couldn’t risk my chances of finding out why I was brought here just to avoid whatever Alec might throw at me tonight. No matter how awful it was.

“I’m sorry,Your Majesty,” I mocked with the most sarcastic tone I could muster once I reached Sie.

“Kiss his boots,” Alec called out from behind me.

I pressed my lips to his foot and then made sure to push all my weight onto his outstretched leg as I stood up, hoping it would hurt.

“I’m not done,” Alec grinned as I went to walk away from Sie. “Why don’t you sit on his lap, Princess, and tell him what you plan to do to him on your wedding night to please him.”

Reagan now stopped smiling and was looking like she wanted to murder me or Alec for suggesting it. I bit my lip, hoping that Reagan would stop Alec in my hesitation.

“And Scotlind, make sure it’s something Sie will like,” he added with a wink.

“Is this really necessary?” I heard Peter mumble under his breath.

I plastered a fake, innocent smile as I wrapped both of my legs around Sie and fell into his lap. His hands flew to my hips as he tilted his head back. A small smile curved his lips as he met my gaze. He was enjoying this. Prick.

I tried not to focus on his hand placement as I whispered to him, “You’re really going to make me do this.”

“No one is making you do anything,” was all he replied.

“We’re waiting,” Alec drawled.

I pressed into Sie and spoke in his ear so no one else could hear me, “I hate you. I will never stop hating you, and I don’t plan on doing anything with you on our wedding night orever.”

His smile faltered. “Good,” he said back, so softly I thought I missed it. Then he added for everyone to hear, “I look forward to that.” I pushed off of him and leapt from his lap as quickly as I could.

Alec, clearly pleased, grumbled, “Now, let’s see what Sie is going to get, shall we.” I turned to face Alec, confused. He rubbed his hands together as he said, “Take off your clothes.”

My eyes flared. My voice was breathless and weak. “What?”

“I said take off your clothes. Show Sie what he can expect on his wedding night.”

I looked over at Sie, who now stood before me. I flashed him a pleading look, begging him to stop this. I didn’t care how desperate I seemed. Alec was purely trying to humiliate me, and it was working. The muscle in Sie’s cheek twitched, but he didn’t say anything as he glanced down at me.

“Are you embarrassed of your body, Princess?” Alec taunted. He knew exactly what he was asking me to do. It was taboo to show a lot of skin in Tennebris, none-the-less be completely naked.

“Or are you worried Sie won’t like you anymore once he sees you?” Reagan smirked as she walked to stand next to me.

I sucked in a breath as I took a step back from Sie and unfastened the back of my dress with shaky hands. The room was silent as everyone watched. I closed my eyes, my dress falling to the floor. I imagined myself escaping the room, imagined anything else but this moment. I had never been so humiliated before in my life, even by Kole.

“Wow,” Alec breathed as he closed the space between us, making a full circle around me. He looked me up and down, taking in the lacey black undergarments that Annabel selected for me. The transparentness of them left nothing to the imagination. Everything was displayed for them to gawk at with how revealing the little fabric covered. I backed myself away from the champagne tower, placing my back flat against the cold wall. In my temper, I forgot about my markings. My dress laid a good distance away.
