“Fuck, honey. I’m gonna blow.” My heart rate climbs, and I grip her hips, pushing her back and forth against my cock as she rubs her swollen clit.

“Me too, Niko! Go! Push me! Make me yours!” There’s a whine in her tone that sends me over the edge. The bear could be setting the forest on fire, and I’d be oblivious to it all, lost in a world with Lainey I don’t want to return from.

My muscles contract as she screams out, soaking my cock with her own sticky pleasure.

“Oh my God!” She collapses forward against my chest and rolls onto the sleeping bag beside me. “I think I’m dead. Did I die? Did that bear break in, and this is some kind of afterlife?”

I blow out a heavy breath and run my hands over her soft skin. “If it is, I’m not going back. You felt so good, princess.” I kiss the top of her head and hold her tight against my chest, pulling the sleeping bag down from the bed to cover her bare shoulders from the cold breeze.

“What are we doing with that window and the bear?”

“Well, I have a toolbox with the sled. So assuming he doesn’t walk off with it like a picnic basket, I’ve got some nails I can use to fix that up with some old boards I saw out back. The bear… he didn’t see me, and I didn’t see him.”

“Your dad is gonna lose it! I should’ve thought this through more. I promised him I wouldn’t fall in love with you. He doesn’t want you to settle in Rugged Mountain, too.”

“Love? You love me?” My chest tightens.

She holds back a grin. “Did I say that out loud?”

“You did.” I brush my palm over her face. Even in the cold, her cheeks are still heated. “Do you mean it?”

“Yeah, I do.” A tear falls down her cheek. “No one has ever made me feel like you do, Niko.”

I thumb away the tear and sit up, pulling her onto my lap and against my chest. “I love you, princess. I promise you everything will work out. I’ll keep you safe. Always.”

“But your dad is going to lose it. He’s worried my father will cause trouble, and he’s not wrong. Even I don’t know what he’s capable of.”

I brush my hand down over her hair. “So, what if we go to Alaska? You’re running, and my place out there is about as far away as we could get. It’s in the mountains, only accessible byboat and then sled. Don’t get me wrong, it’s harsh come winter, but the isolation can’t be beat.”

She twists her fingers through the hair on my chest. “You wouldn’t get sick of me?”

“Nah. I think your mouth could keep me busy in all kinds of ways.”

She slaps my chest and smiles. “What about your brothers? Everyone is here.”

“Yeah, but Alaska is home. What about you, though? Where do you want to end up?”

“I love it here. The small town, the people, the community. I mean, the way that nurse helped us out yesterday. Where else do you get that kind of love from strangers, ya know?”

“Sounds like you want to stay.”

“But I have a lot of wants. I want your dad to like me. I want you to be happy. I want to hide.”

I stare toward her. “If you like it here, we should stay here. We stay here and you open that little seamstress shop you wanted.”

“But that’s the opposite of everything I just said.”

“Everything you just said was for everyone else. I asked what you wanted, and you want to stay here.”

“But staying here isn’t an option. My father will find me, and he’ll make sure I pay for abandoning him. I can’t put you in danger like that.”

While I don’t disagree that there are safer options, living life in secret isn’t one either. “You want me in control, right?”

She nods.

“Then I won’t let you live in fear. You like Rugged Mountain, so we stay in Rugged Mountain. I’ll figure things out with your father.”

“There’s no figuring things out with my father, Niko. When he finds out you shot those guys, he’s going to send people after you.”
