“What do you mean? It’s not a sacrifice, and you’re the one that has to put up with me from now on. Remember, you're mine now too.”

“I couldn't be happier.” I smile at him.

“Angel, you need to rest for now. We do need to discuss what this means to Jonathan's case. As you said earlier, he now has grounds to divorce you. But you were never asking for spousal support, so it doesn’t matter. We just want him out of your life. Besides, I will always take care of you.”

“You know you're bossy, right?” I smile at him again as he leans down and kisses my forehead. “Joshua, I don't care about any of the money or what Jonathan thinks. As long as I have you and Isabella, I'll be happy.”

“Okay, love, you get some rest. I'll be right here.” He tucks me into the crook of his arm with my IV stabilized across his body again.

He called me love. I know I care for him, but do I love him? Maybe. I'm so afraid to tell him though. However, does he love me? I fall asleep in his arms dreaming of him and our daughter. He stayed, he didn't leave me. I fall into a deep sleep for the first time in months. I feel the comfort and security of his arms around me.

Chapter Ten

Jonathan

“Mr. Davidson, we need to discuss a new development in your divorce proceedings.” The solicitor's voice grates across the line.

“Mr. Kramer, unless it's to tell me my wife is appearing in court or coming back to me, I don't care.” I pull at my blond hair, it's gotten too long and needs a trim.

“No, Mr. Davidson, we just received a signed, sworn affidavit from Mr. Donovan that he and your wife had an affair, which resulted in her being pregnant with his child.”

“What? You told me it was my child, I want a paternity test.” I push up from my desk, my chair slamming into the glass windows behind me. How could she do this to me? I only told the court about her precious Joshua to upset her. She would know what the threat was. But, she really was having an affair with him all along.

What can he possibly see in her? She's fat and not very sexual. They deserve each other.

“Mr. Davidson, we can't. He is swearing it's his child, thus waiving our rights. The court accepted his written testimony,” the solicitor whines into the phone line.

“What does that mean?” I yell as I pace around my office.

Everything is falling apart. Sir will kill me for this, just like he killed Carl. I knew Carl was unbalanced and I never told Sir about it, maybe he'll hold that against me too.

“It means, you now have grounds for divorce, and you won't have to pay support of any kind. If we force the issue of paternity, not only could you end up paying support for the child, but they will bring out the evidence of the abuse.”

“I will only divorce her if she appears in court.” I slam my hand onto the desk.

Why am I surrounded by incompetence?

“Mr. Davidson, I advise that we don't force that issue. In Mr. Donovan's statement, he says the abuse Ms. Preston suffered at your hands was so traumatic it could be a detriment to his child, and he won’t risk either of their safety. He said he'll hold the court responsible if anything happens to his child.”

“Her name is Mrs. Davidson. I don't agree with the court allowing the name change.”

“Mr. Davidson, I won't fight for something we have already lost. You need to understand the court is going to continue to rule in her favor unless you give a little.”

“You understand this, Mr. Kramer, get my motherfucking wife in a court somewhere now or you'll be fired.” I hang up. Damn incompetent solicitor.

I need to call Mr. Smith and Sir. I need Mr. Smith to extend the deadline again with Abdul. Maybe he can help me this time. I tried to get her back by myself the last time when she ran for the States. Sir wasn't happy and is still trying to clean up that mess. Now I don't know where she is, they say she's in Australia, but no one can find her. I need the documents she took. I need her. My palms itch to cut someone. If I'm not careful, I'll end up cutting myself again. It brought me far more pleasure to cut her. She was almost perfect. When I get her back, I'm going to start cutting the other side of her.

“Lori, get Mr. Smith on the line. Now,” I yell into the intercom.

“It’s Lorraine, sir, and yes, I will.”

“I don't care what your name is, do it now.”

Incompetence! I need those files, and I would really like to kill them all, but the files are necessary. Sir was so angry about Ana stealing them, he said it was the second time someone has taken files from him. Ana thinks all she did was copy files, but she still has some originals that could lead back to me.

I've been able to keep Interpol from questioning me about what happened in the States. I think Sir is keeping the investigation buried on the Interpol side. Just like he did with Secret Service and DC Metro. He’s got so many people working for him all over the world.

My phone rings. “Mr. Davidson, Mr. Smith for you.”
