“So what was all the ‘don't let anyone in the room’? I know you didn't do a quickie.” I blush at her.

“We talked.” I'm trying to be evasive with the nurse in the room.

“What did the doc talk to him about?”

“She was asking about Ian.”

“Damn, did he harass the staff last night?”

“No, she wanted to give him a letter, she knows him.” I watch the nurse as she looks up at my statement, then quickly looks down to continue doing what she was. She stops abruptly and looks at me.

“Ma'am, is this Ian, the big guy that was at the door last night?”

“Yes, do you know something? He’s like a big brother to me,” I plead with her.

“No, ma'am, Dr. Parker moved her over a year ago from the United States, somewhere in Alaska, I believe. She's one of the best doctors in her field. We’re glad she chose to join our community instead of going to London.” She doesn't say more, and I don't push her. Maya and I look at each other and shrug.

Chapter Thirteen

Ana

As we pull up to my cottage, I see everyone waiting for me, and I start to cry. Joshua reaches over and takes my hand.

“Stay put. I'll come around and help you.” He kisses my knuckles.

“Okay.” I smile.

After the nurse had wheeled me to the entrance, he insisted on carrying me to the car. Maya and Duncan get the medical supplies and my bag out of the back as Joshua opens my door.

“Joshua, I can walk.”

He picks me up and proceeds to carry me to the entrance. “One walk a day, Angel. You heard the doctor.”

“Yes, honey.” I smile up at him. He sets me down in front of Daddy in the foyer of my cottage.

“Ana, darling, don’t ever do that again to me. You aged me more in one day than ever before. I was so worried about you and little Bella.” He pulls me gently into his arms, and I feel him shaking with silent tears. I pull back and look up into his eyes.

“Daddy, her name is Isabella.” I laugh.

“I will call her my Bella, just like I called your mum.” Tears spring to my eyes again.

“Oh, Daddy!” I hug him as the tears come harder. He misses her still and my naming the baby after her makes him so happy.

“James, I hate to do this, but no stress, don't forget,” Joshua says.

Joshua made sure to send a message to the compound warning everyone of all my discharge instructions and the new seizure protocols.

“I know, son. By the way, congratulations to you. Are you sure you can handle being a father?”

“I'll do my best to protect them both, sir. I would die for them.”

“That's all a father could ask for, because I'd do the same. Anabel, Duncan, and Maya have been my complete world for so long.”

The others walk over, and I give them all hugs. I notice Ian is missing. Derek holds me a second longer than Joshua likes based on the low growl from behind me, and I smile.

“Hey, put the hackles away. Ana's yours, she's only a friend.” I laugh at Derek's statement.

“Don't ever forget that either,” Joshua states.
