“What if we get him arrested again? She can escape at that time. I know he's probably breaking his restraining order now. Yes, we should get them both here.”

“Good idea, let me work some scenarios out. We might have to send Raul down to help Michael, he's the best at evasion.”

“Okay, next, Jonathan's also watching her.”

“About that… This evening's rag magazines from London are full of a lot of gossip meant to flush you out.”

“What now?”

“Jonathan leaked to the press about yours and Ana's extramarital activities and about the baby.”

“Bloody hell! I can’t wait to kill that sod.”

“Well, my guess is your mum has seen it and he's hoping you'll pull her in soon or she runs for you. I wouldn't put it past him to threaten her next.”

“What a bloody cock-up, this complicates things. As for Jonathan threatening Mum, there Nathan will help, he'll kill anyone who touches my mum. Come up with some ideas, we'll discuss them with the team.”

“Also, Bradley called again. Rebekah said he stopped by the office and left his resume.”

“Ignore him, I don't trust him, his timing is too perfect, and he’s always been the highest bidder kind of guy. Michael will kick my arse if I hire him. How often are you contacting Rebekah?”

“Once weekly, unless something comes up via secure email. She’s taking care of things well and keeping Michael in line for your mum.”

“Good, might as well place this call. Mum is going to be upset. Keep a close eye on Rebekah, please.”

“Always.”

He does what he's best at and pulls out a laptop, then gets to work. After a few minutes, he grabs a second laptop, and logs onto Skype, making the call without video.

This is going to be bad. I can't wait for the jokes to start or Mum to start yelling. Michael's been with my mum for years. There was a time when he was in control of Securities International. He says he can't call me Bossman because he's known me since I was a kid. I consult with him a lot of times when I need to. I know he cares for my mum and would give his life for her, she, on the other hand, will only put up with him protecting her. She hates having a security detail, but she knows Nathan would get to her without Michael there. He's done it before. There was a time when Michael and her argued about her leaving protection so Nathan would come after her. Michael beat a man to a bloody pulp for letting Mum talk him into letting her go. I respect this man and admire him for all he's done. For the sacrifices he's made in his life to protect my mum. Maybe someday they can finally be together.

“Hey, kid, I was wondering if you were going to call today,” Michael answers with what sounds like a forced cheerfulness in his voice.

Timothy walks out to give me some privacy.

“Hello, how's it going there?” Without the video we can be more secure and don't have to worry about someone hacking or tracing the signal. I also make them drive around during the phone calls sometimes. This time I didn't give them a warning, so they are at Mum’s house. She has a small cottage near the Royal Holloway campus where she used to take some classes.

“Well, it's going normal I would say, except for the fact your mother's been pacing the house like a crazy woman. She wants to know what kind of man she raised that gets a married woman pregnant. I have to say I'm a little curious myself. Thought we had the birds and bees talk a while ago, kid.”

“I'll talk to her in a moment. First, I need to discuss business. I'm not a kid, and someday I'll explain, maybe.” I smile and know he hears the humor in my voice.

“Oh, this is a business call. Let me sit down and act like an employee for a moment. I've more tails now than ever before, and Nathan actually showed his face today.”

“What? Is Mum okay?” Bugger me, why did Jonathan have to leak this. Now Nathan knows too.

“She's safe. She’s pacing the room patiently waiting to speak to you. She isn't okay though, she's going to be a grandma and doesn't even know the baby's mom.” I can hear the sarcasm in his voice.

“Please, Michael, I'll tell her all about Ana in a moment. What're your thoughts on an extraction?”

“Not going to happen, young man. I've noticed a new player, someone from our past. Bradley.” I groan. I knew he was up to no good.

“I knew it. Bradley's been calling and stopping by the main office trying to get me to call him about working for the company again.”

“He's trying to flush you out, don’t fall for it. If I know you as well as I think, you need to protect that little lady and baby. I won't put your mother in that crossfire ever again. I’ll kill him this time, you hear me. Just like Jonathan sending this story to the tabloids, he's trying to get us to run to you.”

He does know me, and I trust his judgment. I wanted him to be my second in command at the office, but he said he wanted to stay with Mum and suggested Duncan would be better.

“I know. As for Bradley, keep an eye on him.”
