“What?” I turn to Duncan.

“He made her drop all her knives, but I don't see her backup gun. Maybe that was what he meant about advantage.” He's holding a tactical knife in his hands. “She never leaves this one, it was her father's. Joshua, we need to find my wife,” he says through clenched teeth.

“Maya with a single hand gun will use every bullet with deadly accuracy,” Derek says from behind me.

“Good. Any advantage they have against Jonathan is better than none.”

“Duncan, we'll find our girls, if it's the last thing I do on this earth. I should have insisted that one of us go with them.”

“No, Maya would have fought you, Bossman,” Duncan says with glassy eyes.

I have only ever seen this man lose it a couple of times, and it was over Maya and Ana each both times. If he loses either of them, it will kill him. “Wait… Derek, was she wearing the watch I bought her for the wedding?” He turns to Derek with hope in his eyes.

“I'm not sure, we can ask Dad when we get back to the compound.”

“If she's wearing it, there’s a tracker in it. We can find them.”

“I'll stay here. Go,” Raul says. “I’ll call you when I'm done here.”

We hurry back to the compound. I have Jen check over Bella to make sure she wasn't hurt. I don't think Nathan would have hurt his own granddaughter, but I don't know what happened before.

It's been four hours since I’ve seen Ana, I can't lose her. I will tear this world apart to find her. My beast won't rest until she is in my arms again. Duncan is pacing like a caged lion, and I see my pain mirrored in his eyes. Greg confirmed that Maya was wearing her watch, but there must be a signal jammer around them because it isn't working. I shouldn't have allowed them to leave without me.

My mum walks into my study and sits in the chair across my desk. I'm turning the watch Ana gave me around in my hand when I notice an inscription on the back. You are my angel, too. Never forget I love you. I groan, and lean back in my chair and close my eyes. I won't lose her now.

“Son, you're the best at what you do for a reason. Find our girl and bring her home. Think ahead. You know where they are taking them. What else do you need? Remember what the Admiral used to say, ‘Always be two steps ahead of your enemy.’ You can do this, son.”

My head snaps up to look at her. She's right, I know they're heading to London, that's the only place Jonathan would be. He’s conceited enough to think he’s still safe there. The Admiral taught me everything he knew, I miss my grandfather and his advice. A slow smile spreads across my face as I come up with a plan.

“Load up! We’re heading to London.”

“I'm going too. If Jonathan has hurt her, she might need me. You should know at my last session with Ana she revealed Jonathan had a second condo in London. One not in his name. She said that's where he would stash her after a bad time. I ask that you not tell her I revealed that, but I know we need this information to find them,” Dr. Mason says.

“Okay, let’s load up. I’ll have to trust the gate guards to protect those here, I can't go without my full team, and I know Greg and James will want to go too.”

Jonathan

My new burner phone rings.

How did he get this number already?

If he can get it, I'm truly never going to be rid of him. I think about all the things I know he has done. All the people he controls or kills when they get in his way.

I know because of my actions I could be killed.

After I made that call to his partner and was shut down, I knew I would be the next body to be found. It’s why I'm here, and oh sure, the warrant for my arrest also made me go into hiding.

The ringing stops and then starts up again. Shit!

The longer I wait, the angrier he will be. I pick it up, and drop it like it’s a snake.

The ringing stops again.

I pause, rubbing my chin where I should have a full beard, but for some reason I only grow scraggly hair. I haven't had a proper shave in days. It's been months since Ana shaved me. My fingers tingle to rub the scars on her back. Not much longer, she will be mine again soon. I’ve already prepared for her. The entry table has several of my tools on it.

I turn and walk back to the fireplace I was standing in front of before my phone rang. I need more brandy. Taking a big breath, thinking it's over with, the ringing starts again.

I can't ignore him.
