“Outlander.”

His eyebrows go up. “Isn’t that …?”

“Yes, it’s also a TV series.” He nods and keeps his eyes trained on the road, but I can tell the wheels are turning in his mind. “What? Have you seen it?”

He shrugs. “It’s sort of a chick-show, isn’t it?”

“It’s not just a romance series. There’s time travel, battle scenes, historical context …”

“Boobs.”

I snort. “So, youhaveseen it.”

“Maybe.” I reach over to pinch his arm, and he fakes a wince. “You know, I’m more than just a pretty face, Reed,” he adds after a few seconds.

“Are you trying to say you’ve read theOutlanderbooks?”

“I wanted to see what all the fuss was about,” he confirms with another shrug.

He turns into the parking lot of my favorite Chinese restaurant, just as I remember that I’d been rereading the series a few months back, right around the time I found out I was pregnant. And it’s likely that my well-loved copy ofOutlanderhad been hanging out on my nightstand when he’d started coming over to my house.

“But,dinna fash. I can keep pretending I don’t know about all the spicy romances you read if you want me to,” he continues, interrupting my thoughts. “Sassenach.”

My jaw drops slightly, and Blake winks at me before getting out of the truck.

Down, girl.

“I thought we were just getting takeout?” I ask when he comes around and opens my door.

“I told you I was starving. I wasn’t kidding about being stuck in court all day, and I suspect I’ll never be able to drag you out once I let you loose inside of a bookstore.”

“I see your point.”

He leads me inside and gives the waitress our regular order once we’re seated. “Anything else?” he asks me.

“Uh, no,” I return, swallowing hard. “That’s … good.”

I’m not sure when watching Blake perform normal, everyday tasks became such a turn on for me, but here we are.

The waitress leaves, and I feel my cheeks darken as he stares at me from across the table. “I’m so glad to hear you’re dating again, Lo. I was having a really hard time holding out on our deal,” he says, his hand venturing over to mine.

Butterflies flutter around in my stomach, in addition to the hungry babies doing acrobats, and it takes me a while to respond.

“I knew you’d crack first,” I finally manage.

He laughs. “The thing is, I’ve been saving my first real date in months for this one woman. In fact, it feels like I’ve had a crush on her for half of my life. I’ve been practically throwing myself at her, but she keeps shooting me down. And I’m so pathetic that I overreact every time she shows me the least bit of affection, yet I can’t stop thinking about her lips and plotting on how to get her to kiss me again.”

I bite my lip and stifle a smile. “You are a piece of work, Blake Bourgeois.”

He gives me a smoldering stare from across the table, rubbing his thumb over the back of my hand. “My mama used to say that about me all the time.”

“Your momwasthe best,” I offer, effectively changing the subject.

“She was, wasn’t she?” He leans over as if he’s imparting an important secret. “And I don’t care what my brother says—I was her favorite.”

I chuckle. “I could see that. You were a cute kid.”

He sits back, keeping his hand over mine. “Who do you think our babies will look like?”
