My little family?

“Loren and those girls are very lucky to have you—we all are,” she continues. “And I’m really grateful you’ve been willing to addN’oncleandParrainto your plate, as full as it is.”

I furrow my brow and swallow hard. “Thanks.”

“All right, that’s enough of that,” she declares, spinning on her heels and waving over her shoulder. “I’ll meet you and the guys at Lo’s with a few pizzas later. I’m sure she’d prefer it if I were the one packing her unmentionables, since you’re just faking it.”

CHAPTER 26

Loren

“Areyou sure you’ll be okay alone?” Blake asks, standing over my hospital bed.

“For the hundredth time, yes. I’m fine. I drove myself here, and I can drive myself home.”

He narrows his eyes at me. “Home?”

“I don’t have to move in today, do I?”

He shrugs and stuffs his hands in his pockets. “I sort of thought that was the plan, but if you need more time …”

Who am I kidding? Blake has an amazing house with a huge TV, a really nice pool, a bomb-ass bathtub, and, well … Blake. For a guy with a reputation such as his, I hadn’t expected him to be an expert cuddler, but add it to the list of his best qualities, which is already starting to look like a CVS receipt.

“How about I go home and grab just enough of my things to last a day or two, and then we can pack up the rest over the weekend?”

“We?” he asks, an eyebrow raised. “You’re actually going to let me help?”

I sigh. “Only because Nurse Tenley said so, and to be honest, she kind of scares the you-know-what outta me.”

He chuckles. “Don’t tell anyone this, but …” His eyes dart around before he cups his hand around his mouth and whispers loudly, “She scares the hell out of me too.”

I smile, and he bends over to grab the overnight duffle bag he’d shown up with late last night. He’d apologized for not getting here earlier, but the pizza and junk food he brought served to soften the blow. Honestly, the fact that he bothered to stay with me in the hospital was enough to melt my heart all on its own. Then, he’d woken up early this morning, gone home to shower, and returned with iced coffee and donuts, all before leaving for work.

The man certainly gives good fake boyfriend.

I clear my throat as an awkward thought occurs to me. “Hey, Blake?”

“Hmm?”

“I was just thinking … with me moving into your house and all, um, what are we going to tell everyone? They all still think we’re dating, well, except for …”

Oops.I forgot he doesn’t know that Tenley knows about our fake-dating arrangement. Damn pregnancy brain.

But he only smirks at me. “JD figured it out too.”

“I guess we aren’t as good at acting as we think.”

“I’m sure we can work on that since we’ll be spending plenty of time together,” he says with a laugh.

“So, we’re just going to keep pretending to date?”

He shrugs. “I don’t really know what other choice we have at this point. It wouldn’t exactly make sense for us to move in together unless we were a couple, right?”

“My point exactly.”

He purses his lips. “I don’t like it when you use my own words against me, Reed. One would swear you’ve been to law school.” Then he leans down to kiss me on the cheek, leaving me with a nice lungful of his cologne. “I’ll meet you back at home this afternoon. Don’t go overboard with the packing, all right?”

“Fine.”
