Tears gather in her eyes, and she looks down at our hands. “Sean, from that day, you haven’t left me alone. You just kept appearing, each time pulling me just a little bit more back out into the light. You were trustworthy and kind, and I think without me even realizing it, you not only stole my heart, but youmended it. I didn’t know if I could love someone again, but this, you and me…I love you so much. You don’t even have to ask. I want nothing more than to be your wife. I would marry you this very minute. I want everything you said and only with you.”

I gather her back up and lift her, kissing her again. I only let it linger a second or two before I set her back down, placing the ring on her finger and then pressing the button to open the doors.

“Sorry, but my limit in this space has hit the max.”

Andie laughs, and we step out into the fluorescently lit tunnel. I rest against the wall, taking some slow breaths, happy to be out in the wide open.

Andie leans against the wall next to me. “If those dudes recognized you, it’ll be blasted everywhere that we got caught making out in an elevator.”

“They’re lucky we were just making out.” She swats my arm. “It may not seem like it, but I’m so freaking happy right now.”

She moves to stand in front of me. “Is that because you escaped suspended confinement this time, or you get to deal with me for the rest of your life?”

She presses into me, and I link my hands behind her back. “Both.”

“You were very brave to do that in there. At least it didn’t really get stuck this time.”

“I was starting to panic just thinking about it, but you made it better.”

She looks at the ring on her finger. “How soon do you think we can make this legit?”

I cock an eyebrow. “In a hurry?”

“Damn straight I am. Don’t think I haven’t noticed how those Kings hussies have been floating around you thinking you’re some cheater they can sink their fangs into.”

I let my head fall back against the wall. “Andie, you’re absurd.”

“Oh, am I, Pretty Boy? Well, sucks to be you then because you’re stuck with me.”

“I think I’m good with that.”

She pushes up on her tiptoes, grinning. “You feeling better?”

I pull her to me and wrap my arms around her. “I say we make this legit as soon as possible.”

Six Months Later

ANDIE

A year. It’s been a year, and here I am again. Different stadium. Different crowd. Same, but different man.

“You going to be ok singing for thousands of raging fans?”

I stand in the tunnel with the Kingsnakes, a cup of hot tea in my hand, leaning up against the metal barricade that separates me from my husband. My black knit dress fits snugly, showing off my curves under a new fitted leather jacket with some additional ruffled flare and my favorite sparkly silver heels.

I lean over the barricade to get just a little closer. “I guess we’ll find out. Are you ready for the first game of your last season?”

Sean’s contract is up after this season, and he’s decided it’s time to give his body a rest and see where else he can lend his efforts.

“I’m ready to spend all my days and nights with you and Ax and our little girl.” His hand slides over my little growing bump, leaving it there, hoping to feel movement.

“We’re ready for you,” I hear the PR assistant say behind me.

I push up to my toes. “Be safe, ok?” I press my lips to Sean’s and then step back, knowing it’s time for me to do what I came to do.

“I’ll do my best. I love you.”

I grin. “You still suck, but you’re growing on me.”
