Then, he saved me from Brice, who was one second away from getting a fist to the throat.

I look down at Ax and run my hand over his head, realizing that I’m here and have him, and that’s all that really matters. People can think that I’m dating Sean if they want. They can say what they want or hate me because I’ve apparently taken him off the market.

Who cares?

When no more pictures surface, it will die, and then, another woman standing next to Sean will take over the feed.

It’s fine. It’s all going to be fine. I just need to give it time.

Chapter 13

SEAN

I scroll to a new song and grab a set of dumbbells. The weight room is quiet. It’s just me and a couple of other guys getting a head start before a team meeting to discuss tomorrow’s game and then practice.

After last night, I’m feeling good. I woke up ready to get to work and focus on the game. Then, I’m getting in touch with Craig to figure out where I can help next.

I make it through a couple of sets, and Tyrell struts in.

“You’re here early.”

I turn off my music. “Yeah. I’m ready for tomorrow.”

“Yeah? I thought you’d be in later after your big night last night.” He smirks like something is funny.

I start on another set. “What are you talking about? I went to a benefit last night for the children’s hospital.”

“Yeah, I saw. I didn’t know you andThe Show Me What You Gotgirl were getting up close and personal.”

“What? Her name is Andie.” I set the weights down.

“Oh, sorry. I didn’t know you andAndiewere hanging out.” He grins, and I don’t like the smugness behind it one bit.

“I don’t know what makes you think we’re hanging out, but–”

“You haven’t seen it.” He laughs, covering his mouth with his hand. “Man, you know better than anyone there’s no sneaking around.”

“I’m not sneaking around.” I wipe my brow with my shirt, my muscles contracting with irritation.

“That’s not what it looks like. You should see the pics. The two of you look pret-ty cozy.”

“What pictures?” I grab my phone, scrolling, wanting to know exactly what he’s talking about. It only takes a second, and I see them. “Shit!”

I run a hand over my face, my jaw clenching. “I just went to the benefit. I had no idea she’d be there. This guy was being a complete asshole, and I cut in so he’d leave her alone.”

Tyrell puts his hands on his hips as his head falls to the side.

“We barely know each other, but I couldn’t just let this guy put his hands on her and treat her like…” I inhale and let it out, wondering if Andie knows about these.

I sit down on the weight bench, looking through more photos and comments. People want to know who she is, and others answer with clips of her singing the anthem. They’re discussing how she looks and comparing her to Morgan.

Tyrell’s right. I know better, and I’m pissed that my life and who I am is impacting her. I know she has strong reasons for not wanting to be in the public eye, even if I don’t know what they are. I should’ve known this could happen and been so much more careful.

“She doesn’t need this.” I rest my arms on my knees. “You’re right. I know better, but I’m not trying to hide anything.”

Tyrell laughs. “Don’t worry, you just put her face in front of millions. She’s probably sitting back and eating this up. You should be more worried about your female fans. They’re angry. First, they didn’t know you broke up with Morgan, and now they’ve missed their chance.”

I shake my head. “Andie’s not eating this up.”
