“But do you want to?” Rachel arched a dark blond brow.

“Not discussing this,” I said firmly.

“Then let’s go somewhere where we can talk about it.” Her lips flattened. “I don’t like the idea of you getting tangled up with him.”

“Why? He’s handsome and rich.”

She didn’t argue those points. “He’s too old for you.”

“Yeah, probably, but how’s he different from Daniel?”

“That you ask that has all sorts of sirens going off in my head.” She grabbed my arm, pulling me toward her. “He’s your boss, for one. Not a stretch to say he’s sexually harassing you. Second, he has connections to people you don’t want to mess around with. You know this. I know this. We all do. Third, he’s not dating you. He’s obsessed with you.”

“Enough.” I put my hand over hers. “You’re going to have to trust that I know what I’m doing.”

Mostly, anyway. Being attracted to Martin wasn’t part of my plan. But I could control that. Right?

Deep, murmuring voices rose above the music from the sound system. I looked up, and Rachel swiveled around on her stool.

The guys were here.

Andy had red-rimmed eyes and an unsteady gait. Collin looked bad-boy sexy with rumpled black hair and an unlit cigarette dangling from his mouth. Barry’s hair was tied back and his sticks were in his grip. He tried to catch my eye, but I looked away.

I went to the cash register. I had no reason to be there, but I wanted to discourage him from coming over and talking to me. Martin might not be around, but those cameras were, and so was Dimitri. His arms crossed, Arturo’s cousin stood just off to the side of the bar. I knew he wasn’t my bodyguard. He was Martin’s spy.

“Better go to practice,” I told Rachel while pretending to count the cash in the drawer. “Martin said you guys were a disappointment last night.” A subpar performance that RDA had witnessed.

“He’s right.” Based on her tone, she was surprised that Martin had noted it. “I’ll see what I can do to get Andy on track. Don’t hold your breath, though.” She frowned. “But you and I are so not done talking about the other thing.”

I sighed, watching her cross the club.

The guys welcomed her, or Barry did. Andy spoke to her, but he looked pissed off. Collin didn’t glance my way once. But Barry did while standing close and speaking to my sister.

Again, I looked away. I wanted to talk to him. I wanted him to hold me, which couldn’t happen anymore. The phone rang, jarring me out of my thoughts. I went to answer it.

“Winston’s,” I said into the receiver. “Addy speaking. How can I help you?”

“Ah, my dear, there are many ways,” Martin said in a droll tone. “But just one for now.”

“And what would that be?”

“Come home with me tonight.”

“Have sex with you, you mean?” I asked to clarify.

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

His side of the line went completely quiet. I’d stunned him. But I had a plan now.

“I will have sex with you, and I’ll stay the entire night. On one condition. That my debt will be considered fully paid.”

“Done.”

My heart soared on the currents of unexpected success, but inside, a part of me was disappointed.

Martin had said I was glorious, but only as an item to possess. Those other things he’d said had just been just empty words.
